BCCI warns CA against pulling out of Pak tour

Throwing its weight behind the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the BCCI on Thursday warned Australia against pulling out of their March-April tour here, saying the move could lead to serious repercussions.

"There will be serious consequences because you can't just pull out a committed tour when the host board is giving you assurances about security and so is the government," BCCI vice-President Rajiv Shukla told 'Geo English' on Thursday.

Shukla said Cricket Australia (CA) should have faith in the PCB and be assured that its players would be safe here.

"If the host board and government are willing to give assurances, you have to accept that... you can't just cancel a confirmed FTP tour. The hosts know best about the prevailing security situation," he said.

Shukla, who toured Pakistan with the Indian team as an official in 2004 and 2006, said even when India was due to tour Pakistan, its players were scared of playing here.

"But we decided to accept the assurances of the Pakistan board and government and the players supported us. Once the tour was over they were all very happy at making the tour," he said.

"Similarly I think the Australians must listen to the arguments of the Pakistan board for whom the tour is important," he added.

A PCB official welcomed Shukla's statement insisting it would have some bearing on the final decision of the Australians.

"Indian board is an influential one because of its position in the cricket world and recently they have managed to get their point across to the Australians on some contentious issues on their ongoing tour," he said.

BCCI is getting too bossy these days!!

i think BCCI/IPL got pissed off bcoz of aussie boards reluctance in allowing their players to play in IPL!!And CA is planning to take action against players who spoke against CA for wanting to play in IPL at the stake of their sponsors!!!
Thats why Punter today blamed IPL and leagues, saying IPL might attract the people who are 33-34 years old and want to play more cricket at international level!!!!

And these security shouldnt be big concern for CA, once PCB is providing 1 to 1 cover for every player of australia! !!

They have evey right to if they think that they are not being treated fairly. What the BCCI has that no other cricket country can match is the population of its country. India generates the most money for the ICC, thus its decisions carry great weight. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are also big markets and in my opinion these 4 countries should form a group in which they protect the right of the Asian cricketers, because I personally think the ICC is racists towards Asians. If we lets say boycott cricket then I gaurantee you the ICC will bow because it will lose a lot of money, basically we can bend the rules the way which we want, but we mustn't use this power in any unfair manner, it should be used only when the situation calls for it.
