Noting that its relation with India is at its "best" now, Bangladesh has said that the destinies of the two neighbours are intertwined and the cost of non-cooperation is too high which both nations can not afford.

"The India-Bangladesh relation is at its best now as in 1971. We have cooperation in almost all areas," Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni told reporters here last evening.

Asked about Theesta water dispute between Bangladesh and India, Moni said, "water is a major issue and rightly so. We just hope that it will be resolved very very soon."

Recalling Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's remark, she said: "it is not only our past that is similar, our destinies are also intertwined."

"Cost of non-cooperation is too high. We can not afford that. Neither India nor Bangladesh can afford it. Water is a major issue and for Bangladesh is taking all steps for the fullest cooperation with India," she told members of the Indian Journalists Association, UK and Europe, here.

"We also have our internal constituencies where water becomes a major issue and very rightly so. We just hope that will be resolved very very soon."

Answering a question on terrorist activities on the Bangladesh-India border, she said: "terrorism and extremism must not have any space in Bangladesh society. Now it has been controlled. We are looking at causes of radicalisation and modernisation of madrasaas."

Asked about the controversial Bangladesh writer Tasleema Nasreen, Moni said: "personally I liked some of her poems. I don't think her as a major writer in Bangla to demand so much attention. It is a very personal opinion."

On recent reports of attempted coups in Bangladesh, she said: "there were as many as 19 by some of the middle level officers."

Good to see that half of 1947's Pakistan is now on a much more friendlier terms with India (barring a few fanatical kids).. 60 years is not that long a time to achieve that.. Hopefully the relationship with the balance half will also improve over time ...

When one country is surrounded on three sides by the second country, then the destiny of both the countries is inter-twined by default.

And in both the threads not a single bangladeshi comment ... (real bangladeshi )

Can't get enough of trolling eh? (Real Indian )

No one here gives a damn what that woman has to say.

Bit thick-headed aren't you?

Why don't you go over to Bangladesh and see what people has to say about the Awami League in general?

And FYI, I am not a Jamati, or anti-India.

Its really surprising that many BD members here trash hasina , but yet they had won 230 seats out of 299 , which is indicating, BD members opinion here, do not reflect ground reality !!
BD people have chosen economy friendship instead of hate propagated by zia !!
Ms.Dipu Moni u r right :)

The AL won because people were frustrated with Tarek's corruption spree. Sadly, this current government is no different. And hence, the trash against Hasina.

Do not be surprised if BNP wins the next election, and thinking that all Bangladeshis are screaming: "Death to India" with foam filling their mouths (which won't be the case ).

You guys here have a very simplistic view of the politics of Bangladesh. It is in fact far more complicated.

As a matter of fact, most Bangladeshis aren't die-hard AL or BNP. It is the 'rest' who decide which party takes the cake.

This Dipu Moni is nothing more than a chamcha, and we know it.

Criticism =/= Anti.

The statement is a self evident truth but coming from a BAL minister it has a sinister aspect vis-a-vis Bangladeshs sovereignty. Nothing more is expected from this poor ill-equipped inexperienced ineloquent minister then to come up with usual BAL hyperbole.

Dipu Moni: we can only hope that the Teesta Issue will be resved quickly.

Apparently 'hope' is her foreign policy, she should look up in the sky for
It to fall.
