I was an avid stamp collector as a kid, and was particularly impressed by the artwork of the fair amount of Soviet Union stamps I owned.

The monument is the Victory Monument at Stalingrad. The victory of the allies over Germany primarily due to the efforts of the USSR laid the foundation for Russian dominance of Eastern Europe for four decades and the Cold War.
