HARIDWAR (PTI): After successfully producing 80 mm naval guns for the past two years, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) would now also manufacture 127mm naval guns.

The Haridwar unit of BHEL had already signed a contract with the union government for the purpose, Acting Director of Heavy Electricals Equipment Plant (HEEP) Virendra Pandhi told reporters here.

BHEL Haridwar registered an annual turnover of Rs 5,415 crore in 2011-12 which is 27 per cent more than the previous year, he said, adding the company wants to increase the annual turnover to Rs 1 lakh crore by 2016-17.

Pandhi said in view of growing competition and demand of the market, BHEL also intends to diversify in the fields of manufacturing equipment like pollution control.

I think this totals to 4-5 M-2000s and now the fleet is facing shortage too. IAF is looking towards EF-2000 about 50 of them or not??? Just supposition not to replace M-2000 but to add capability that they require.

BHEL can manufature whatever they want ,but don't sell it to IN as BEML sold TATRA trucks to IA.

For God sake let private players into the defense sector.

BHEL is going to manufacture these in-house, not buy from abroad and sell at inflated prices like BEML did with the trucks.
