Brain Drain: Highly Educated & Top Pakistanis Leave Country | Accelerated 3 Times to go abroad | Pakistan's brightest leaving the country

Perhaps the economy can be improved by sheer numbers.

We we might lack in Industry can be made up by a large population.

If you have one pie, eight people can eat it and be satisfied if you have 16 people eat one pie, they are still hungry. The population itself is useless if you have no industry.

Israel, with a fraction of our population, generates more GDP and revenue than Pakistan.

So population growth isn't going to solve our worries.

Indians abroad support each other and massively recruit their countrymen into MNC's whereas Pakistanis are divided by ethnicities abroad and go out of their way to pull each other's legs. Indian executives/CEO's are known to offshore work to India, whole production lines have been moved to India on the whims of Indian origin CEO's.

However, when Pakistanis try to do the same i.e. off shore production to Pakistan they are rebuffed by establishment that eschews exports and is in love with Imports. I have a personal experience that attests to this mindset of the powers that be in Pakistan.

Saadh - You made some very sensible statements and I appreciate coming across people who are smart and sane and doesn't give into political divide. So let's have a factual argument with me. I know about a dozen (at least) businessmen who've setup huge development and customer support centers in Islamabad and Karachi. None of them ever had to deal with the Establishment, What does a military establishment got to do with setting up an offshore dev center? Please elaborate!

You came across sensible so while I know precisely what's been fed to overseas Pakistanis from IK, let's discuss this without bringing in his flavor to blame the establishment for even his corruption that his people don't want to even accept. When he's made more money than many in 30 years. So help me understand what was the establishment's role in stopping you from doing work?

We have national incubation centers in Islamabad who are getting funded left and right with millions of dollars in foreign investment. I don't see anywhere even a RETIRED officer involved from the establishment. So help me understand. It seems as tomorrow a Corolla will stop working and establishment would be blamed for it.

Hey Dirty Harry's baloongray, how did Khan bring this rough patch when he hasn't been in power for the last
8 months? This rough patch has beeen bought on by Bajwa and his dirty gang to save their corruption.

When IK left office Petrol was 150RS per litre and in 4 months PDM took it 250rs, Excellent performance
from PDM. I won't mention the price of Diesel, Electricity, gas, inflation. You can ask Dirty harry if it
has gone up or down since IK left office.

Hello King's servant abusing UK's welfare benefits by defrauding the British government and stealing from credit cards to support IK!!

It was actually IK, (not his father Mr. Bajwa). IK signed on the largest loan in the history of Pakistan, DID NOT implement any conditions he agreed with AND when they stop giving money, at the time the no motion trust was brought in so IK instead gave further subsidy and destroyed the terms and conditions he was going to abide by (creating mines for the next government), When the next government came in, IMF made sure the second tranche of the money would be released WHEN all terms that IK didn't implement would be implemented. Thus, the prices going up. That was supposed to happen in 2019 per the contract IK signed.

Obviously it's too much thinking that IK's people can't do so don't worry about putting your little mind to work this much, Collect you welfare check and continue abusing and defrauding the UK government.

Brain Drain of Pakistan: Highly Educated & Top Pakistanis leave Country | Leaving Pakistan accelerated three times | Pakistan's brightest leaving the country

Lack of Senior Management and Senior citizens dislike towards promoting brightest Pakistanis on top positions, which they feel threatened. Over 60s Pakistanis do not let talented people from age 20 to 55 to come to top positions in all types of companies and institutes in Pakistan.

Brain drain: Thousands of highly educated professionals leave Pakistan

Continuous political unrest, nepotism, army interference and deepening economic difficulties have been main reasons

Thousands of highly educated and professional persons have been forced to leave Pakistan due to the country’s continuous political unrest and deepening economic difficulties.

Pakistan is in danger of losing its productive human capital as progressively intelligent and skilled people are saying goodbye and never paying heed to return to their own country. The term brain drain refers to the departure of people with the highest levels of education, experience and professionals in the quest for higher income, better living standards, access to vanguard technology, and more stable socio-economic-political environments in various parts of the world. Additionally, it has adverse effects on the origin country inclusive of all sectors either education, health systems, or economy.

Brain drain is triggered by globalization, and transnational corporations (TNCs) and often favors the economies that use these people to fill skill shortages. The central aim of this article is to explore the reasons for the departure of highly skilled and talented people from Pakistan. Due to its multisectoral impacts, this is a crucial issue for future investors and policymakers.

According to the document of the Bureau of Immigration, this year alone saw a 300 percent spike in the country’s brain drain with as many as 765,000 people leaving Pakistan for a better life overseas.

According to the document of the Bureau of Immigration, this year alone saw a 300 percent spike in the country’s brain drain with as many as 765,000 people leaving Pakistan for a better life overseas.

92,000 highly educated individuals including physicians, engineers, information technology specialists and accountants were also included in this year’s report. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia received the majority of them.

Pakistan has lost 7,000 engineers, 25,000 physicians, 1,600 nurses, 2,000 computer professionals, 6,500 accountants, 2,600 agricultural experts and 9,00 teachers due to this brain drain this year.

Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Malaysia, China, Japan, Turkey, Sudan, Romania, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Greece and Italy were chosen by Pakistani specialists this year for the prospects over these countries.

The results have shown that approximately 40,000 kids had travelled to Europe and other Asian nations while over 730,000 of the youth had gone to the Gulf States. The statistics have indicated that 470,000 Pakistanis left for Saudi Arabia for work followed by 119,000 for the United Arab Emirates, 77,000 for Oman, 51,634 for Qatar and 2,000 for Kuwait.

A dangerous situation for Pakistan is coming

We have heard it often enough at dinner tables and formal discussions about Pakistan’s youth and one issue is brought up repeatedly – Pakistan’s brain drain. With 63% of this 220 million people country under the age of 30, the brain drain represents a significant proportion of the population and their resentment to leave Pakistan which in turn mirrors a deeply flawed system where Pakistan is unable to retain and utilize its best talent.

While there may be different reasons for the youth to reach its full potential in Pakistan, some of which include lack of opportunity, tough circumstances, an unforgiving environment or unsupportive parents. Looking at the numbers, around nine million Pakistanis currently work abroad which includes both skilled and unskilled labour as well as students going abroad for their undergrad or graduate studies. Thus, it is not surprising when we hear the remark, Pakistan may reh kar kiya karo gay [What will you do if you remain in Pakistan]. These remarks are a sobering reminder of the deep resentment and mistrust of the opportunities in ones homeland, in fact, if Pakistan were able to utilize its best talent it could become an industrial powerhouse in the area and help with some other deep seated issues such as the balance of payment and the import-export issues. While the recent investment of two major companies namely, Kliner Perkins and Nestle, are promising signs of a hopeful future as well as the Serie A funding secured by young Pakistani college graduates, it still goes a long way towards addressing the issues that would (partially) stop the brain drain.

Hi,

Brain drain is never a problem---the problem starts when these people come back home---what they go thru---that is the real issue---.

That's a very serious issue. I totally agree. I personally know a few people who came back to Pakistan with extreme patriotism. They ended up losing their shirts and went back. In India, it's the opposite, if people know you came back, you are respected and things made easier for you. In Pakistan, if they know you came back, instead of supporting you, everyone wants to drain you financially to "send you back where you came from"! As a result, all patriotism is shattered and the person things he'd be lucky leaving for good. With them goes one or two business ideas that Pakistan desperately needs!

Hi,

It happened the same way in India as well. But then it changed---the govt of india stood behind those people coming back to india.

I know this because I knew some indian engineers who had worked in Sunnyvale Ca ( silicon valley ).

On our side---sometimes our chief justice gets involved---sometimes his younger brother---and at other times someone else in power does that---.

Sad state of affairs---.

A sad things about insuring cars.

It’s not really the car you are protecting with good coverage it’s yourself and your assets (like your medical license) should anything you do with that car cause. As for the actual day to day car, especially in a large American city, best to drive the cheapest non-descript econo-box that will blend in with all the other cars, so it’s less likely to get jacked or have its catalytic converter stolen.

Same thing with Malpractice insurance, one bad case and you could be out a million easily. Get good coverage and keep a lawyer you have good experience with, on retainer.

That’s the life that awaits professionals (or just plain hard working people) and their children if they make it out, and they still keep coming because it’s more stable the what’s offered “back home”.

But maybe that kind of mindset develops when you’ve grown up in a litigious society. I can see why people in Islamabad would be the least likely to want to move abroad; many of them, especially the most affluent, live in a bubble or have very sturdy blinders on or have bet it all on Islamabad come what may.

As for remittances, which is claimed to be the silver lining of the brain drain; as the cost of living goes up abroad, people don’t have the means to remit as much.

Over time, as the immigrants and then their children and grandchild of these immigrants become alienated from Pakistan, they won’t want to even visit Pakistan, much less remit. These people should not be taken for granted.
Also what I’ve been told is different car insurance companies have different tiers of liability insurance. The Cheapest has a cap to how much they will cover but if you damage the other person to the point that they exceed the cap then the other persons insurance WILL and can go after your homes or anything else you own of worth before they cover the difference.

That's because USA protects Israel.

Who protects Pakistan?

We need to build Pakistan's economy and reputation.

India/BD in coming years will no longer able to supply cheap labour to GCC as they get old and richer.

Further brain drain, removing any competent people left in the country..

Another Bajwa's and co masterstroke,,

These 'Grand Strategizers' have been voluntarily waterboarding Pakistan since the first General Usurper Ayub robbed us of our sovereignty, which was fought for centuries..

What more will it take for the awam to surround GHQ, and trial these treacherous swines for high treason.. ??? its been 70+ years in the making, these lowly scum chowkidars should be finally be put in their place... Jinnah warned us, yet it fell it deaf ears..

Correct. One way to solve that gap is Umbrella coverage.

Several years back, the Higher Education Commission launched a program called 10,000 PhDs in STEM fields. Selected students would go to the top Western schools and then return to Pakistan and teach, publish and research. I know several who went into nano-tech/cancer research in Cologne, Germany, and these individuals were professors at the University of Punjab of Lahore. They received their degree, and the promised job never came; they also lost their old job. One went back to Germany and attained permanent residency. He is now researching using nano-tech to isolate, target regions of cancer cells, and provide therapy, thanks to his thesis advisor. The others in Pakistan run their family's naan-making shops or flipping burgers on a rari with a Ph.D.

@Horse_Rider, you have many more issues with this country than you, and anyone can solve. But, unfortunately, people aren't willing to change. This country is a dead horse carried by the other horses tied to the carriage; majbori ha baki horses have to take you, or you'll slow them down. This country is a burden.

I've had a lot of thoughts about colonialism, knowing and seeing what a shit hole South Asia is; we shouldn't have gotten rid of the British and stuck with them because both countries are communal shitholes and deserve no right to self-governance.

Pakistan, especially now after all the inflation is not worth staying in if your a new doctor. High paying jobs are a few and locked behind a huge wall of if you have links and grease the palms of someone. Being a 4th year med student i to will not stay here. The pay is abysmal, 60-70 per month for 10 hour shifts and often 36 hrs when you get night duty. Hospitals are understaffed and all the government THQ hospitals are overrun with patients. There is no system of appointments. Once you come in for your duty your sitting and checking patients for the next 10-12 hrs. And the worst part….. the pakistani desi patients families. Every other day sone patients family is beating up hospital staff or destroying equipment because of his death. Just yesterday an 80% year old man passed away at our hospital… his family beat up my senior PG doctor because he supposedly “ didn’t check on time” . At any given time there are a 100 to 200 patients and 5-6 doctors in the hospital. And they all fighting over whose family should get checked up first.
Absolute cesspool.
Yes I rather run a business in karachi then work in hospital with low pay and insecure working conditions-cannot ever forgot those days
