Featured BREAKING NEWS: UN DECIDED TO NOT EXTEND THE ARMS EMBARGO ON IRAN

If Russia stales in the sales like they did with the S-300, Iran maybe the launch customer for the J-31 or its successor. This will make for an extra important Xhuhai air show this November, now that the embargo is gone. Iran desperately needs to replace everything its its inventory, so a deal for 100-200 Fighters is not impossible, especially if it’s barter trade for Oil.

S-300 was blocked by UNSC resolution. It has nothing to do with Russia. Iran still got it anyway. Iran will buy Su-30 to replace F-14 in the air to air role and Su-24 in the air to ground role.

I stand corrected, thanks for the clarification. Do you think the Russians would sell the S-400 if the Iranians were ready to purchase it?

it was a long shot by US to begin with...but issue solved by Russia or China do not veto it...a little embarrassing lol.

T129 uses American engine and US will maintain sanction so not gonna happen. If anything, Mi-28NM or Z-10ME to replace AH-1S.
Turkish engine TS-1400 will be in mass production in 2021, which is just next year

Considering the US just approved the sale of 66 F-16s to Taiwan, China will go ahead and sell at the very least the J-10 (for many reasons the JF-17 is not likely to be sold to or desired by Iran, but because China is the sole operator of the J-10 there are many advantages) if not the J-31 with Russian Engines. The J-31 was designed primarily as an export fighter, and the experience of it operating against foreign radars and EW will give China invaluable experience to refine their own J-20. The Iranians already maintain klimov Rd-33 engines on their Mig-29s so it should be quicker transition then a whole new engine. At one point Iran was rumored to want to buy 250 Sukhois.

Sales to Iran could be the balance China has for US sales to Taiwan.

The deal may simply be a transfer of assets. In the past week, there has been a flurry of news in China that Taiwan will be unified within a year. Normally, such news would be banned.

In addition, given the European position and Iran's financial situation, China and Russia are unlikely to sell heavy fighters like the Su-35, J16.
