British MPs write to PM Manmohan Singh against Kudankulam nuke plant - The Times of India

LONDON: A few British lawmakers have written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha protesting against the nuclear power plant at Kudankulam in a tsunami-prone area of Tamil Nadu.

In the letter, they have demanded the halting of the construction of the plant claiming that it violated the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA) safety guidelines as "the Kudankulam is in a tsunami and earthquake prone region which has also experienced small volcanic eruptions and is affected by water shortages".

In addition to the MPs who have signed, two others have expressed their concern about the way people in Kudankulam are being treated.

According to Amrit Wilson of South Asia Solidarity Group, which is one of the groups organising a protest demonstration in front of the Indian High Commission to the UK on Friday, Henry Smith MP is writing to the British foreign secretary and Jean Lambert, Member of the European Parliament is herself writing to Manmohan Singh separately.

And Keith Taylor in a separate statement said "people have a right to protest against the construction of this nuclear power plant and I am concerned at the way they're being treated".

Organisations representing South Asians in Britain and anti-nuclear groups including Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) planned to join the protest slated for later on Friday evening.

Kill those protesters in Kudankulam without delay.

Who do these fools think they are???! Writing to the PM of India and asking him to reconsider a done deal??!! India isn't a colony of UK anymore, they are a sovereign nation who doesn't interfere in others business like this but UK thinks it still has the right? UNBELIVABLE!! Will the UK provide India with billions of dollars in compensation for sunk costs? Will the UK provide an alternative to provide clean energy to millions of Indians? I bet my bottom dollar if a UK company was the one constricting the plant this letter would never have been sent. We have already stated to death the mammoth differences between Indian nuke plants and Fukishima.

And TN "tsunami-prone"??!!!

And TN "tsunami-prone"??!!!

Kalpakkam Nuclear plant already escaped one of the fiercest Tsunamis of the century on December 26, 2004. Tamil Nadu need electricity and Kundankulam power plant is almost complete. So, what is the need of writing a letter.

just some people having delusions of past grandeur . ignore them .
the PM has already re iterated in the RS yesterday that work on nuke plants throughout India will not be stopped. if there are any local issues they will be addressed ,but work will go on .
