Chief of Japan Air Self Defence Force on a three-day visit to India - The Times of India

KOLKATA: General Haruhiko Kataoka, chief of staff, Japan Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) arrived in India on Monday on a three day visit. The visit assumes special significance in the light of India's improving military co-operation with Japan. This is a consequence of the growing relationship between the two countries, an official said. During the day, Gen Haruhiko called on Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne, chief of air staff, Indian Air Force, and interacted with senior officers at the Air Headquarters in Delhi. He is scheduled to visit the Western Air Command, Para Troopers Training School at Agra and the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE) in Bangalore.

"Indo-Japan relations are multifaceted and founded on historic linkages. Mutual high-level delegation visits of both countries has contributed significantly to the consolidation of the existing ties and has given a further boost to the cordial relations between both nations. High level defence staff talks and exchanges between the Japanese and Indian Armed Forces with a focus on regional and international security, and steps to increase defence cooperation and exchanges have considerably improved our military to military relations," an official said.

Look East , Look East .

Roger that Captain . By the way East is Already looking up to you

I hope we get some of the tech used in D 3 fighter for AMCA.

^^ Investment in India will be beneficial for both Japan and India.

Japan is already seeking share in potential nuclear market of India worth 160 Billion Dollars.

Also, China has opened United Anti Japan front; Japan is protecting its interests and playing counter moves( This visit is definitely a message to China).

But India is too slow opening up its market. India started the "look East" policy 2 decades ago.
Seems China is still a better place for Japan.

Yes China is non-stop bashing Japan everyday:butcher: . Japan is being chased out of China's market. SO they have no choice but to look elsewhere which is India :help:.

Try again what has India got to offer Japan ?

In general, opportunities for investment, big markets for uranium as well as nuclear tech, roads, rails etc, which has been pointed out above. China may be a better place, but it doesn't have to be either China or India. They can trade with both.

But this is a military visit. Probably for enhanced co-ordination in the seas, more joint exercises etc. After all, these are both two very professional armed forces, and two of the best in Asia. Especially the navies.

U simply don't understand how international relations & diplomacy works mate.

Japanese economy has got saturated, yes there economy is nearly thrice that of Indian economy, but they cannot grow as much as India is growing currently & will be in future, as prediction goes India will soon become Asia's No. 2 & world's no. 3 economy leaving Japan behind in a decade or so, so what Japan is investing is in it's future, It has the US cover (military, nuclear, economical) but US is finding itself in troubles as the rise of China is becoming more & more inevitable, Japan is getting terrified by this inevitable, so it sees India as a power that can balance the rise of China in Asia & the world (can u name any other country??), Yes, India can't be compared to China, but World's largest democracy having 3rd largest army, 4th largest air force, 5th largest Navy, tenth largest GDP in nominal terms & third largest in PPP terms, can't be ignored also. Otherwise why do u think that a country that is totally opposed to nukes will be negotiating for nuclear trade, with a country like India that has not even signed the NPT.

If China is balanced out by US in the Pacific & SCS while India does the same in IOR than this gives the much needed breather to Japan assuring that trade through these sea routes get going uninterrupted & threat of an attack by China is minimized, thus Japan can tackle it's economic issues with peace.

Not just Japan many other East Asian country are forging stronger relationship with India to balance the rise of China, SK, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar to just name a few.

In other words nothing much. India-Japan is a non starter. You already had 2 decades of "Look East"

Indians would actually be better welcome in a open China than in racist and closed Japan. And Japan would rather invest in China which has a better return.

Did the first sentence seem like "nothing much" to you? A market for hundreds of billions of dollars in the next decade?

Economically, Japan was open since a lot before China knew what the term market meant. We are only interested in the open market part, and don't care about their racism, because them investing money in India is not affected by their racism back home. That only affects people who want to go work there, mostly Chinese.

The only non-starter here is your cheerleading for China. Leave that to the Bangladeshis please.

India is not a player in East Asia. India will never be a threat to China. India GDP in real terms is less than Italy. Not even 10th largest and getting smaller due to your currency. Yes you can alway buy Japanese weapons. That will help Japan.

If China is balanced out by US in the Pacific & SCS while India does the same in IOR than this gives the much needed breather to Japan assuring that trade through these sea routes get going uninterrupted & threat of an attack by China is minimized, thus Japan can tackle it's economic issues with peace.

China's market was what that kept Japan afloat all these years. Nothing to do with safe passage of sea route. Due to Japan right wing activities, now Japan will be shut out of China's market just like S Korea. Japan GDP skrink 0.8% because of that. To make it worst, Japan is heading for a hang parliment.

Not just Japan many other East Asian country are forging stronger relationship with India to balance the rise of China, SK, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar to just name a few.

Again what has India got to offer ASEAN. If you read the latest news on the India - ASEAN summit. ASEAN are complaining about how slow India is opening up their market.

Only if India open up. But beware. Opening up is a double edge sword.
