Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday directed Minister for Science and Technology Senator Azam Swati to immediately resign from his post during hearing of a suo motu case regarding the 'unlawful' transfer of the Islamabad police chief Jan Mohammad.

The CJP had taken suo motu notice of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Jan Mohammad's transfer today in the wake of conflicting reports about the reasons behind his transfer.

Local media had reported that the IGP was transferred because he did not attend minister Azam Swati's phone calls. However, the government refused the media reports and said that the decision had been taken because his performance was not satisfactory.

Justice Nisar had earlier suspended the IGP's transfer after it emerged that he had been removed from the post following verbal directives from Prime Minister Imran Khan.

As the CJP resumed hearing of the case today, Swati's lawyer Barrister Ali Zafar submitted an apology on behalf of the minister in court.

The court, however, rejected the apology and said that it would form a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the transfer of the Islamabad police chief.

The JIT will include officials from the National Accountability Bureau and the Federal Investigation Agency.

"We will also examine Article 62(1)(f) in this matter," the CJP said. "We have great respect for the Parliament. Power should not be misused this way."

More details to follow.

Goons are again happy but what they dont know is these kind of things are like a filter and they are working hard to clean PTI of morons who still believe in status-quo and tyranny. PTI free of these people will be much better.

tyranny of the unelected

you used CJI to remove Nawaz, overruling the democracy, now face this shit for your new leader.

Azam Swati victimized a family of peasants at personal capacity and misutilized his political powers to pressure police into taking action against the same family. Swati might have attempted to influence perception of IK, in the transfer of Islamabad IGP.

Swati's behavior is not acceptable.

Long live CJP Saqib Nisar - Iron Man of Pakistan.

Literally by saying this, you are spreading a message that you think that nawaz who most Pakistanis believe has been the root cause of corruption in Pakistan since the 80s is a democratic leader while his opponent in Politics currently IK is unelected and not a voice of the people of Pakistan at all. This is a huge insult to the people of Pakistan's wishes mind you. No wonder why most Indians are not taken seriously at atleast here.

The background of this story is not well known. Cow entered in the house of Mr. Swati and as a result harmed the guards and other things of his house so his son teacted by leashing that cow in his house after which the household of the cow's owner came in the house brawled with the security personnels and his son and even injured him. Now this is an illegal act but since azam khan is a minister and other party was a poor family so automatically everyone is siding with that family and is against Mr. Swati due to some societal trends. Although some acts of Mr. Swati are condemnable but this doesn't mean he should be portrayed as some sort of evil guy. There's been worse cases even in the tenure of pti but all were ignored unfortunately.

Rofl the embattled CJP did mukmuka with the govt. on IGP issue. The IG Islamabad was also relieved andofficer of govt.s choice took a charge. In order to save face he ordered Swati to resign.

Chief Justice image after the Asia ruling is exposed and now finished in the eyes of masses. His draamaybaazi wouldn't have last for long continue anyway. Has pushed the country into turmoil what an idiot.

How is a Science and Technology minister directly responsible for transfer of a police officer? Clearly not his remit and as the article says, it was done by the PM. Doesn’t matter who complained, the person responsible for any such transfer was the person possessing the authority to give such an order. Wrong person in the dock.
