LiveFist has confirmed that the Latin American country Colombia has expressed interest in purchasing India's indigenous Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun. The National Army of Colombia (Ejército Nacional de Colombia) operates armoured personnel carriers and infantry combat vehicles of Brazilian and American origin, but does not have any main armoured strength. As part of its modernisation drive, the country is interested in inducting regiments of main battle tanks. The country has sent the DRDO a request for information (RFI) on MBT Arjun. This is the first ever expression of interest from abroad in the MBT Arjun.

LiveFist: EXCLUSIVE: Colombia interested in MBT Arjun!

hope it does well against good tanks being selected is nowhere in sight right now

I'm flabbergasted! Either the Russians are trying to sabotage the Arjun tank project threatening that they will charge exorbitantly for other projects like PAK-FA and Gorshkov aircraft carrier. If this is the case, the govt should make it a point to pressurize the IA to carry out the comparative trials as soon as possible in front of the DRDO and independent agencies and make the results public. Also, the govt should build more dry docks to complete the three aircraft carrier project asap that it has undertaken. Maybe they could contract Tata and L&T for the docks and parts of aircraft carrier construction because competition in building docks will ensure their timely completion.

If this is not the case, the IA should be investigated for defence scams. The govt is doing a good job investigating defence projects like the howitzer guns and the israeli MRSAM project, and they should continue doing it to ensure that India spends its defence money to get the most bang for the buck.

Also, the Latin American market should be targetted for selling equipment like Hal Tejas and MBT Arjun and other INSAS equipment because that is an untapped market and India can generate revenue for more in house defence research.
