Details are slowly coming to light of the mystery Indian Navy (IN) vessel being built under the secretive Ocean Surveillance Ship (OSS) project at the Ministry of Defence-owned Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL).

IHS Jane's understands that the OSS project is managed by the Indian Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a similar manner to the Arihant nuclear submarine project.

The layout of the ship - a long open deck with space for several tracking antennae aft of the forward superstructure - suggests it could be a ballistic missile tracking ship operated by the IN for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Might be but what new? India is preparing for a 21st century fight. We should be prepared in every way.

The ship might be for ICBM tests or satellite tracking.

Any pic?

It's for integrating, training and target acquisitioning of the CM-400AKG. It's also part of a larger deal between the PAF and the IN which includes the Shivalik and Kolkata class destroyers to better configure the armament on the naval variant of the JF-17.

Heard this is going to be one of IN's largest vessel and that its going to be used for "studying oceans" ...well atleast officially. :)

In cases like this, nothing is to be gained by speculation. Just let it be ma'am ;)

Pracetice your target on your own ships. See how many you can kill. But our target will be Rawalpindi. lol

CM400AKG... Missile aane se pehle se hi uska jawab aagya... LRSAM... read about it.

As far as I know, this will indeed turn into a surveillance & telemetry tracking vessel that is used for testing of
ballistic missiles (as well as BMD) for DRDO.

Am waiting for BJP to give us something special.... Like they did in 1998 nuclear test. May be this time india may launch human into space or 5th generation jetfighter may debut or may be Aura bomber may take first flight etc etc.
