Diabetes various degrees

Somebody else also mentioned it,

Type 1 Diabetes, which is the rarer form, is congenital (since birth), irreversible, consists of pancreas' inability to produce insulin which is supposed to drive glucose and amino acids into cells. These patients require daily insulin injections.

Type 2 Diabetes, which is the common form, develops over time (not born with), is reversible, consists of adequate insulin production but inability of cells to intake insulin (thus also the inability to intake glucose and AA efficiently). This is called insulin resistance.

So if your relatives have T1 diabetes and take insulin injections, they won't get elevated blood sugar after eating. But if they have T2 diabetes, they may get elevated blood sugar after eating, depending on what they ate and how.

One thing people are usually unaware of is that insulin is used also to drive amino acids from proteins into the cell, not only glucose (sugar). If you eat a combination of protein + sugar together (i.e. roti with meat, or pulao rice with mutton), your insulin will spike much, much higher than eating either item alone, which in a T2 diabetic will cause elevated blood sugar.

Maybe check with your relatives what they are eating with the rice.

The fiber content in the grains is also involved. Is it whole grain, hulled, germ and bran removed, pearl, etc. Is it white or brown rice? Is it basmati or another variant?
The fiber slows down digestion of sugars, reduces insulin spike.

Other chemicals in/with foods also affect insulin, i.e. beta glucans in oats and barley, vinegar, citric acid and more.

The best way to reverse T2 is by not eating for several hours between meals (ideally 10 hours minimum).

This is too complicated topic.Simple thing is keep your body weight low (less then 23 BMI if you are lean OR LOW FAT PERCENT(9-10%) and do more exercise.

Nothing else really matters
9-10% ... that's the range of professional bodybuilders, and extremely difficult for the common man.

Are there various degrees of diabetes?

Some of my relatives, who are diabetic, eat rice (it's glycemic index is high) everyday. Nothing happens to them. Their blood sugar levels doesn't increase considerably. Only negligible increase is seen in them despite eating something like rice.

Some diabetic people eat low glycemic index millets yet their sugar levels increase. They have to take insulin injection.

Why such variations in response to foodstuffs?

As i looked into it the last time there were 12 "Diabetes types/subtypes" today. And cause of that the search was gearing up and so nearly every year a new type/subtype emerge, is found. Some of this new types/subtypes are classified as "mild" what means that these people have higher sugar levels, but are not in danger cause the levels seems to be stable at this higher level, e.g. they live within a range of lets say 300-500 the whole life. Sure, in the long run it will complicate their living, but long run means decades. But if they eat "Diabetes-Style", long chain carbohydrates (as rice is) and no(!) granulated sugar (what is nearly in all groceries one can buy in the west) and have lot movement (e.g. working a lot), then they can live long.

BUT this is if they have the "mild" type. Every person what has higher blood sugar has to be diagnostic individual. And that is the problem what is with the "Doctors". If you have higher blood sugar, then nearly all doctors classify you as type 1 or type 2 and give you insulin and metformin and what else is out there. But that can be dangerous (e.g. metformin destroys your liver). Also the pharma industry needs money and insulin bring them thousands of money per people per month. And that is why they lower the "dangerous blood sugar limits" over the decades from 300+ to 200+ to 180+ to 140+ and now it is 120+ or so. So with that they can classify more people as "in danger" and can sell more of their stuff.

Why i can write that? I have high blood sugar too. Decades. And i do not take any "medicine". But this is my individual task. Everyone have to check by itself what is good for him and what not. If you measure often 600 and higher, then the method you use for yourself is not ok and you better have to check with a diabetes specialist. There arent much doctors out there what are always updated with the last knowledge about diabetes. Try to find one who knows the actual types/subtypes and not only type 1 or 2 and type 4 with women.

I have type 2 diabetes, i can eat anything as long as i take the pills on time.
Ofcourse you have to consider how much sugar you take in and not repeat what made you diabetic in first place.

Rice, noodles, pizza are known to increase blood sugar levels.

Usually type 1 have to take insulin injections and they have to be on strict diet if they want to stay healthy.

Post Edited & Clarified.

Nothing happens to them after eating high glycemic rice means, their sugar level itself continues to be like before consuming rice. There's not any appreciable difference in their sugar levels after eating rice.

Indeed there are levels in which patients fall. As a rule of thumb, you can limit your rice and sugar intake and walk around 3 kms daily. Test your sugar levels after 2 months on this routine.
If it doesn't work then, leave all sugars and carbs altogether.

No one knows how to define it.

No one knows how one gets it.

No ones knows how to cure it.

There is no cure of diabities, still medical failed to invent medicines to permanently eliminate the diseases.

Pakistan is worst country for diabetes.

Top reasons of Diabetes in Pakistan:
1) Depression (Due to poverty, inflation, family and financial issues, terrorism in the country)
2) Cold Drinks
3) Tea (Due to Sugar in It)
4) Sweets

My lot of relatives like cozons, their wives, aunt (khala) have diabetes. Mostly reason is Cold Drinks and Tea. One of them due to Sweets.

I think you have to maintain sugar level, not more, not less in diabetes. but i not confirm, one of them i have seen he get insulene injections daily. not confirm about others.

Another from the tribe of Orya Maqbool Jan who thinks polio vaccine is yahudi conspiracy for making muslim children impotent .

there are 2 top duffers in India Pakistan.

1 is Gober Arya, who threating a NATO country CANADA.
2 is Lal Topi Zaid Hamid who claims Corona Virus is propaganda. He claims corona vaccines are cause of death to reduce world population. He mentioned "Astra Vaccines". In reality it is banned in all Europe due dangerious for lives. All others are OK especially by China and US pifzer.

I am not expert dietitian but if you take fiber with/before carbs, it doesn't increase your sugar level.
Also there is different level of insulin resistance, that could also be the reason.

South Asians are at higher risk for Type 2 diabetes, up to four times higher than other ethnic groups probably due to a combination of genetics and environment. Recent studies have shown that South Asian diets high in refined ("bad") carbohydrates are associated with diabetes risk factors.

South Asians survived at least 31 famines, especially during the 18th and 19th century. This turned them “starvation-adapted” by developing a tendency to generate and store fat instead of burning it off. This is why they have low lean muscle mass, Dr Syed explained.

The sugar levels of my relatives don't increase appreciably even on eating large amounts of high glycemic stuff. Why have they been diagnosed with diabetes for at least 10-15 years?

I used to weigh between 130-140kg and was a borderline diabetic. I had 2 choices. Take drugs to control my sugar, uric acid and blood pressure or start exercising and control my diet. I opted for the latter. After 2-3 years of disciplined exercise and diet I now weigh 90kg and have normal sugar levels and uric acid and my BP is also fine. I continue to exercise 4 times a week and watch what I eat. I will be 70 years next year and Alhamdolillah feel good.

Rice that has been cooled and reheated is high in resistant starches. Maybe your relatives eat leftovers a lot?
