DRDO developing a futuristic e-bomb

Will be capable of targeting adversary computer systems, networks:cheers:

Chandigarh, November 7

With electronic warfare and network-centric operations playing an increasingly significant role in today’s battlefield, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing a weapon that renders electronic gadgets useless and effectively neutralises the adversary’s command, control and communication capability. :bounce::yahoo:

Commonly referred to as “e-bomb”, the weapon produces a strong electromagnetic field generating powerful electricity surges that can play havoc with electronic circuits within a specified area.

“We have developed and validated the technology and the weapon in its usable form is expected to be complete within the 12th Plan,” Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) director Dr Manjit Singh said.

“Though this is the biggest weapon of mass destruction next to a nuclear bomb, it has a limited collateral damage as it does not target humans and is designed to hit computer systems and networks,” he said.

The e-bomb, based on Explosive Driven High Energy Pulse Power Technology, can be deployed against non-military establishments like banking and civic utility networks, communication and power generation networks.

It not only disables gadgets and networks but also destroys or damages them, which can seriously affect day-to-day functioning of the society over an extended period of time. The bomb can also be used against mobile enemy command and control centres or advancing formations to render them “blind” by disrupting communication.

The basic principle of the weapon, according to APS Sodhi, a senior scientist working on the programme, is converting the explosive’s chemical power into electrical power. “Detonation of 1 kg of the designed explosive mixture can produce about 4.5 megaJoule of electricity energy,” he said. The explosive is a mixture of RDX and TNT.

Initially, DRDO’s e-bomb is being designed for delivery by combat aircraft and later, as technology is matured and the warhead made more compact, it would be integrated with missiles. :argh:

Already posted but no mention about futuristic in that article.

Thats good but we should work fast on missile variant.

just waste of money

Don't worry soon it will be tested.... Its already developed and very soon to be deployed in Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) Pune for further testing.

This is a part of EMP burst program.... Some clue about computer virus (American and Isreali cripple Iranian Nuclear Processing computer)

This spell uses magic to create a very intense electromagnetic pulse that does 1d4 points of damage per caster level (maximum 10d4) to all electronic devices within the area, including soulmechs, robots, and creatures with neural sockets. The EMP burst is non-magical, and so spell resistance does not apply. The damage ignores item hardness and any other defenses not specifically intended to ward of EMP bursts (note that energy protection spells, such as Endure Elements, can choose EMP as an energy type and are effective against all EMP burst effects). EMP protection upgrades, both mechanical and magical, are available for most equipment, soulmechs, robots, and creatures with neural sockets, as well as EMP shielded carrying cases and backpacks. Creatures with neural sockets are particularly susceptible to EMP bursts, and must make a fortitude save (DC equal to the damage taken) or be stunned for 1 round per 5 points of damage taken. Note that EMP damage in no way affects the structural integrity of an item, it only fries the sensitive electronic circuits. For example, electronic handcuffs that are destroyed by an EMP burst do not necessarily open, and are just as hard to break out of (unless the electronics was enhancing them of course).

What will the DRDO develop next? Probably a 'stink bomb'?? Exploded over advancing enemy formations it'll have them run for cover as the stinky stench it produces will be too much to bear, causing fainting attacks, and even death in some cases!! No, seriously!

Darn! What the heck are these DRDO dudes up to? What would they come up with next? Probably a 'fart bomb' at more than 200 decibels level that'll blow one's ear drums to smithereens so no one can hear battlefield instructions any more resulting in utter chaos! Jeeeez!

All this hooplah is fine and if the bomb is near completion if its design phase, then its a awesome news. But if this is one of those big mouths from DRDO, then this will take the cake....

I don't understand the DRDO strategy, why are they keeping cart before the horse? Especially considering this is a national security issue.

I prefer GAY bomb, this will bring utter humiliation in enemy camps. :P

Chilli bomb can be made like drdo's chilli grenade.

We should also go for fuel air bomb of this kind of weapon as it won't cause much uproar unlike nuclear and we can make as many such weapons as we like.

DRDO is decades behind. China developed these in the 1990's already when we tested low-yield / high radiation nuclear reactions. Indians are just starting to imagine the concept.

e-bomb is not a radiation bomb, first learn a little before posting here.....
