Because F16 fulfilled our operational needs of the Time.

Pakistan does not need F35 or Rafale.

With all that american threats of sanctions and political dilemma ,they wanted to opt f16s ?. Recently our defence minister revealed difficulties regarding f16s spare parts as americans refused to sell any spare parts .
We shld accept our mistake Rafale was a big miss and our adversory took advantage . In 90s mirage 2000 was a big miss and our adversory took advantage . In late 2000 than ACM in interview accepted that they refused saab gripen with TOT offer as they were unable to handle such delicate and modern tech and no men power . Interview is still on youtube .and after a decade a visionary ACM going for own 5th gen jet .

Rafale package at that time was not good enough in terms of Capability. We opted for latest F16s and upgradation kits for existing ones.

The people blaming for not inducting Rafael perhaps do not consider ground realities as the Rafael at that time was not having any advantage over F16 moreover if induction decision was taken at that time even then many have been criticizing it now as upgrades may not have been available due to US pressure.
Even now if US allows latest upgrades for PAF F16s along with latest sidewinder our F16s can crush any adversary but same shall not happen. Our only hope is to get Chinese help. In short run make JF17 block 3 as much capable as we can on other hand should go for induction of 5 th gen jet in medium term whether India inducts it or not. As we should broaden our minds and then we may realize that other threats are also there rather than India.

PAF may enter in limited partnership for further development of FC31 as per PAF requirements along with carrying over long term ten year plan of aviation city/ next gen domestic fighter jet.

Can Pakistan Afford a $200 million combat plane be it Rafale or Typhoon or indeed F35

The reason yiou acquire 18 block 52 is they are purchased USING USA grant aid funding.

THIS HAS NOW STOPPED ……………..and the threat of sanctions on spares from USA on PAF is very real

That leaves RUSSIA who will never provide funding assistance

SO we go to china …………………

ITS LIKE there is no other options left

Rafale will completely decimate anything PAF has now and in near future

J31 god knows if that becomes reality or not

Pakistan has No need For F35 nor Rafale.

We dont have that operational demands.

Hi,

For a layman like me---( if I am a layman ) I knew the capabilities and abilities of the Rafale and what the future held for that aircraft---.

If the Paf did not know about it---then you guys need to confront them---because they lied to you---.

Hi,

Young man---you need to learn to " stop talking big "---. The talk won't defeat the enemy---right equipment would---and there is no right equipment available---.

The cost of a Tyhoon is between £70-90m. The RAF took delivery of 129 planes at 87m each back in 2015.
Where did you getting 200m from?

Sir 100 % agreed . Your driver would know better thn your car and probably other cars in market but you wont give him sole decision to buy new car . Yes you will take his advise but final verdict will be yours

Pakistan is the only country in this World where Air force build its own fighter jet . Do you have any idea of fallouts of such decision . May be senior members can ellaborate .
Pakistan is may be also the only country whr buying or refusing jet decision is sole decision of Paf brass without any arguement/ confrontation or objection by gov or establishment .

Hi,

You are correct on that part---. Buying a war machine is a tactical and strategic decision---.

But the problem in pakistan is that an average pakistani is illiterate regarding weapons systems.

Our politicians are clueless what the needs are and thus the Paf makes a fool out of them---.

There is a reason why the air forces of the world do not manufacture their own aircraft---.

Rafale is twice the cost of the F-16 B52.

Price depends on what's included. Costs jack up when you also have to pay for base infrastructure, maintenance facilities, weapons, training, 5-year spares, customisation etc. And this is the price that you need to pay when you sign the contract and start taking deliveries. These add-ons could cost as much as the unit price of the jet, sometimes more.

Then comes the cost of spares and maintenance for 30-40 years, integration of new weapons, upgrades etc, which can cost as much or more than the unit price. Then comes the MLU, which could cost as much as the unit price again.

So unit price for the Typhoon is £87M. The assorted extras in the contract is another 87M. Cost of operation over 40 years is another 87M. Then MLU could cost another 87M. So a total of £348M (minimum) over the life of one Typhoon. Fuel costs can be extra (but this is not the manufacturer's headache). So you can break up the price between 87M and 348M however you want.

Example:
http://www.dnaindia.com/india/repor...le-deal-india-and-france-signed-today-2257990
Sources said the "vanilla price" of just the 36 aircraft is about 3.42 billion Euros. The armaments cost about 710 million Euros while Indian specific changes, including integration of Israeli helmet-mounted displays, will cost 1,700 million Euros. Associate supplies for the 36 fighter jets will cost about 1800 million Euros while performance based logistics will cost about 353 million Euros.

So 3.42 billion Euros for the 36 aircraft (which is equivalent to your £87M for the Typhoon). And 4.563 billion Euros for everything else, the extras necessary to operate the aircraft.

The above cost doesn't include the cost of operating the aircraft for another 45 years, MLU and integration of new weapons and upgrades.
