Business Line : Industry & Economy News : Gujarat, Maharashtra account for 46% of exports in 2010-11

NEW DELHI, MARCH 15:*
Gujarat and Maharashtra account for 46 per cent of exports from India according to the data on state of origin of exports of goods in 2010-11, according to the Economic Survey 2011-12.

If Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, with more than 5 per cent share, are added to the top two, the share of the top five States would be 65.7 per cent (in 2010-11), it is found.

In 2010-11, the growth of exports from States was robust, the Survey said, adding that “Only Goa had negative export growth due to fall in ore exports owing to a ban on exports of iron ore by the Karnataka Government.”

High export growth was registered by Odisha followed by West Bengal and Gujarat. In the first half of 2011-12, there was robust export growth in case of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, it said.

To encourage exports, outlay under the Assistance to States for Developing Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities (ASIDE) Scheme for the Eleventh Five-Year Plan was increased to Rs 3,793 crore.

“State-wise allocation under State component of ASIDE shows that the top six States in terms of allocation in 2011-12 are Maharashtra and Gujarat followed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh,” it said.

Modi ...PM in waiting. No body comes near him in delivering. Nitish is second, Both NDA.
NDA at center after next elections.

Where it says Gujarat has overtaken Maharashtra?

Maharashtra still Accounts for 60% of India's Container Traffic.

Most of the Finished Goods are Made in Maharashtra and Exported from there.

Gujarat has a Long Way to go!

Gujarat is a lot of hype and advertising.

Maharashtra does not advertise itself in the print and tv media.

Everyone is ga ga about Gujarat.

But reality is different..........

Maharashtra beats Gujarat hands down .......... be it social indicators or industrial statistics.

just one example...

Gujarat ..........Media hypes it as auto hub of country .........but with just two plants GM and Tata Nano and Ford planned.

On the other hand Maharashtra ........auto sector ....... no mention in any media .......Bajaj, Kinetic, Mahindra, Tata, Force Motors, VolksWagen, General Motors, Fiat, Mercedese Benz, Piaggio, Skoda, Audi .........

"Gujarat is going to overtake Maharashtra"...........only in Modi's wet dreams.

Dholera and GIFT...these two new SEZ and SIR are enough to takeover maharashtra....
Maharashtra government is working fast on MIHAN SEZ though but at the end of the day it has turned out to be IT and ITeS SEZ with exception of LUPIN and BOEING MRO...

Gujarat SEZ exports go up by 37%, touch Rs1.26 lakh crore

Maharashtra's industry is not SEZ centric.

Infact SEZs have miniscule share as far as investment is concerned mainly limited to software and food processing.

The big investments are outside SEZs.

Its the baap of all state industrial development corporations across India called .............MIDC.

MIDC has the largest area (land) for industrial development than any other entity in India.

Just see the sheer number of MIDC's across the states and the humongous number of industries operating out of these industrial zones ........be it small, medium or large industries.....

yes you are right that MIDC are indeed baaap of all the industrial zones...but it does not mean that we will be able to keep this growth forever....do you know that volkswagen, mahindra and bajaj have threaten to move outside of maharashtra?

regarding your previous comment about sanand being auto hub of country i would like to add that the number of car plants has nothing to do with being an auto hub..detroit just has GM,FORD,CHRYSLER..

getimage.dll

It will be important to note that sanand can become auto hub only if maharasthra and tamilnadu fail to provide good opportunities to car makers and if gujrat gives more incentives(which it is already doing)

next ten years you will never know what might happen..

till then Pune rules :)

Don't worry its just an empty threat...........they have enjoyed the concession so far due to the state government's stupidity ...the government lost revenue due to this..........this time the government has rectified it ........the companies are merely sabre rattling to blackmail the state not to rectify its earlier mistake. They all are here to stay and reaping the benefits.

And as far as Sanand .....its a midget in front of Pune as an auto hub........... just no comparision.......

like i said currently it is midget...

gujrat is also helped by its seaports which are very thoughtfully placed(thanks to gujrat's huge coastline)

Prithviraj chavan is now personally looking into SEZ projects in maharashtra....he is good guy and i hope others in GOM don't come in his way...
