French Defence Minister Gerard Longuet will be on a two-day visit to India from May 26 during which he will meet his Indian counterpart A K Antony and the three service chiefs.

Longuet's visit comes against the backdrop of France's Rafale fighter jet getting selected as the last two contenders for India's multi-billion dollar defence deal for Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA).

During the course of his visit, the French minister will also hold high-level meetings with senior government officials.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy had visited India in December 2010.

Out of the six contenders for the MMRCA deal, Rafale and EADS' Eurofighter Typhoon have been shortlisted by India for finalising the deal.

purchase rafale. defence minister for marketting.bwe need our minister go to other country for markettingvtejas-lca.

So they may announce the winning of rafale or it might take time?

PM I like typhoon too. sxey specification shows that better than rafale. but purchase rafale. good to deal with only one country whichvis also anti us.

I want him to give India 100% TOT with the Rafale.

So that we can add everything from Rafale and more to India Teja 2.

True, but reality (Afghanistan, Libya) shows that it is far behind Rafale!

They stated they will provide full ToT of the AESA radar, including source codes and they stated it from the start. From the Brazilian competition we also know, that Saab offered slightly more ToT, but the French offer was more comprehensive and was preferable, because just like us they have a big focus on improving their industry with ToT and that is only possible if they transfer useful techs.
The other side was probably the US, where the manufactureres also was said to fulfill MMRCA ToT requirements, but that's mainly the ammount only and doesn't tell us what kind of ToT they provide. Boeing for example stated that they would divert the production of several airframe parts, the wings and tailfins to India (same on offer in Brazil as well), which means they provide the ToT to produce these parts, but producing such minor parts won't help our industry to improve right? ToT of critical parts like radar, engine, certain avionics instead would be way more interesting, be it for us, or Brazil and that's why the European contenders (except of Saab) had an advantage in this field, that the US naturally try to counter with lower costs.
It's pretty simple, you get what you pay for, we might have chosen the most expensive alternatives, but also those that gives us the most in return!

I think that a few deals will be signed when the French Defence Minister visits India on May-26.The mirage Upgrade deal, some sort of agreement regarding the DRDO-MBDA Maitri SR-SAM might be signed.

why do we want to buy rafale alone??cant be buy 10 pieces of rafale,10 pieces of MiG 35,10 pieces of eurofighter and 5 pieces of Gripen? When we buy all the stuff from one company then we become its slave and dependent on it too :agree:
