Greek Cyprus has conveyed its concerns to the United Nations over a search and rescue exercise held jointly by Turkey and Turkish Cyprus.

A search and rescue exercise named “Martyr Lt. Caner Gönyeli-2012” has started in northern Cyprus and will be completed today, Anatolia news agency has reported.

Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou Marcoullis said on June 12 that they had made a complaint to the U.N. over the “illegal” search and rescue exercise carried out in northern Cyprus, daily Famagusta reported. “Last week we made representations to the U.N. and all diplomatic missions accredited to the Republic of Cyprus, but also to certain countries that participated in last year’s exercise,” Marcoullis said.

The best part:

Observers from Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the United Nations forces on the island were all present at the exercise.

Serves the Greek Cypriots right. I remember Greek Cypriots were riding high in 2004 as they were about to enter European Union and looked down on Turkish Cypriots and Turkish citizens. Now that their Greek Patrons are bankrupt they are jealous of Turkey's progress.

They should cooperate with Israel their new masters and let Israel flood the island

We should work quicker to get the resources like Gas on the island

No use in crying now. Rely on the EU as much as you like but you are just under the nose of Turkey. We will protect our rights there.

They should blame themselves and the Greeks for abusing Turks Cypriots in the seventies
They could live in peace with Turkish cypriots but all of a sudden they felt the need to merge with motherland Greece. They knew the risks and now they know they are in weapons range. And it's our job to keep reminding them of that.
