Nation to celebrate Defence Day today

ISLAMABAD: Defence Day of Pakistan will be observed with zeal and fervour today to pay homage to the martyrs who rendered supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland.
Defence Day is observed every year to pay tribute to the martyrs of the war who sacrificed their lives for the sacred cause and got their names written in golden words. Different functions, seminars and rallies are being organised, while different radio stations and TV channels, in remembrance of the day, will air special programmes.

On September 6, 1965 the Indian forces sneaked through the Wagah Border but Pakistan’s armed forces put up a valiant defence of the motherland and drove them back. The day was named Defence of Pakistan Day (Youm-e-Difa).

Our great PM Lal Bahadur Shastri was a genius, his decision to attack Lahore failed Pakistan's obsession to occupy Kashmir into a defensive mode to save Lahore.

Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.

May be that's why he died just hours after the ceasefire. May be the "success" was too much for him to handle. :)

Defence Day calls upon nation to make pledge to renew spirit of loyalty to Pakistan: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that the Defence Day of Pakistan called upon the nation to make a pledge to renew spirit of loyalty and service to Pakistan and pay tribute to valiant sons who embraced ‘Shahadat’ while ensuring the security of the motherland.

He said this glorious day signifies passion and sacrifice, serving as a supreme cause to lay our lives for the sake of our beloved homeland. In his message on the occasion of Defence Day of Pakistan (Sept 6), he said the day allows the nation to reflect upon the courage and valour of the soldiers who had defeated a numerically large enemy and inflicted upon them a great setback. As Pakistan is moving towards a path of progress, the Prime Minister said the supreme sacrifices of these sons who laid down their lives for our prosperous tomorrow should always be remembered.

He said the defence of the country is not limited to September 6 alone, rather stretches upon an entire lifetime and encompasses all dimensions of physical and ideological frontiers which need to be guarded. He said that celebrating this day helps the nation in reinvigorating the spirit of patriotism.

He said that today Pakistan is confronted with multiple security challenges in the shape of extremism, terrorism and external aggression, but the entire nation stands alongside Pakistan Defence Forces to thwart evil designs against integrity and prosperity of Pakistan.

“Our soldiers are our greatest asset as they not only offer their precious lives for fighting in battlefields but also remain prepared to undertake the responsibility of working as a cohesive force in very challenging situation, may it be horrifying earthquakes or the devastating floods,” the Prime Minister said. He added that the resolve and personal sacrifices of our men in arms is a great source of inspiration for whole nation.

On this special day, the Prime Minister said that the whole nation stands united with utmost discipline and unwavering faith to make this country strong. “We, by playing our part in the development of the country, can make Pakistan unassailable against security and economic challenges.

Let us take the opportunity to once again pay homage to the martyrs of September 6, 1965 and all those who sacrificed their lives for the safety of the country in the later years,” the Prime Minister said.
