IAF wants fresh info from France as concern rises over reports of Pakistani pilots’ Rafale training

Shouldn't India drop Rafael??? Should go for Euro Fighters instead....
Katar is buying typhoons too....

I really hope this becomes an issue and they drop plans for more Rafales. F21/AMRAAM they have themselves killed. Sukhois they no longer have confidence in. So either LCA or Grippen - which we can counter with Block 3.

For once, us Pakistanis seem to be having all the fun :lol:
You're way above them and BD in the World Happiness Index for a reason...

uh yeah, France is under no obligation to give any info related to deals with other nations (qatar in this case) to anyone, especially India! Rafael lay nay h and in to lay verna phut!

Wrong... and a big NO. However, PAF had a visit to France but that was in total different contexts.

However, whatever Jon Lake has been up-to, both arguments of "This report shouldn't be published" or "This report is published correctly for many reasons"; are correct. By not mentioning Pakistani Pilots; would have served the purpose of an element of surprise but on other hand, by speaking about the same actually made an impact in advance for them to be very careful. Counter productive, though.
You're saving as many IAF lives as possible for Imran Bey is an Oxford educated humanist with a tack record of building hospitals, universities etc., unlike RSS trained genocidal maniac Modi with a track record of killing minority babies, kids, women, elderly etc.!!!!

As you are, so will you be ruled (Hadis-i Sherif)

You deceive them by bargaining for 128 but buying only 36, and then have a thunderous laugh.....

They're just returning the favor with another thunder....

@Windjammer has produced an M.M Alam

36 Kills

its sounds nasty but you have to hand it to him he caught or may be keeping it for 2 years with himself.

Food for Thought?

Why didnt US offerred JSF to India?
Ummm...hang on...i am not saying for one second, if this news(about PAF training in Rafale)is correct or not...i just wanted to understand, how can merely training in a plane, you can get to know a lot about adversary...so this article kind of gave me some insights...

Regarding JSF, i haven't followed this news wholeheartedly however there were news, it was indeed offered

https://in.reuters.com/article/idINIndia-60286320111103

though i think later those reports were unsubstantiated....but again...apart from technical, there are host of other issues as well...

I was wondering if it was a fake news?

The Rafale controversy took a fresh turn late Wednesday after a US defence portal’s February report surfaced, saying Pakistan Air Force exchange pilots were trained in France to fly the Rafale fighter jets of the Qatar Air Force.

The AIN Online report, which was published in February, said the Pakistani pilots were trained on board Rafale jets in November 2017. This was a year after India signed a deal with France and Dassault Aviation to buy 36 Rafale jets.

Although neither the Indian Air Force nor the defence ministry has issued any statement or denied the US report, top sources in the Indian defence establishment told ThePrint that the IAF will seek fresh information from Dassault Aviation and its Air Attache in France. The French ambassador in New Delhi tweeted that the portal’s report was “fake news.”

What the IAF wants to know is if, as the report mentions, the pilots were indeed Pakistani and what level of training they were given.

The IAF sources claimed the initial information received suggested a batch of Pakistani technical team was in France on behalf of Qatar only “a few months back”.

“It is wrong to say that pilots were trained in 2017. Initial information is that there were no Pakistani pilots who were trained by the French government. Even if they were, it would have been done in the last one year,” said the source.

“Additional information will be sought from Dassault Aviation and the Air Attache in France.”

The initial information also suggested that the Pakistani technical team was just given one general briefing, the source added.

Top French sources told ThePrint that all the pilots who are being trained on the Rafale jets for Qatar Air Force hold official Qatari passports. But, unlike India, Pakistan allows dual nationality. So, it is quite likely they retained their Pakistani passports too.

Asked if there’s a security and secrecy risk for India in case the US report turns out to be true, the defence source said, “If they indeed would have been trained, then they will be scared by the capability of the fighter aircraft. Getting trained is no issue, the problem will only come if Qatar decides to hand over the aircraft to Pakistan. But that is not possible because of the end-user agreement between France and Qatar.”

An important point to be noted is, that in the past, Arab countries are known to have transferred their American-made frontline fighters to Pakistan. The two most notable cases are Jordan in 1971 (F-104 Starfighters) and now, at least 14 F-16s. The transfers were approved by the US.

India is expecting the first batch of the aircraft in September this year. Qatar received its first batch of the fighter jets in February. In any case, there is no restriction over Qatar allowing PAF pilots routinely seconded to it to fly the Rafales.

Pilots from friendly governments being given access to aircraft and equipment which may also be in the inventory of their adversaries, however, is a routine practice. IAF pilots have lately had plenty of access to USAF F-16s in joint exercises and trainings. What needs greater secrecy and protection than the aircraft or weaponry are the tactics and customised softwares.

Qatar’s Rafale deal and Pakistan
The West Asian country had signed a €6.3 billion agreement for the purchase of 24 Rafale jets (six of them two-seat trainers) in May 2015. A dozen more aircraft were added to the order in December 2017, said the AIN Online report.

“Qatar’s Rafales differ in detail from those delivered to France and Egypt, and integration of the Lockheed Martin Sniper targeting pod and Elbit Systems TARGO-II helmet-mounted target designation system required extensive testing,” added the report.

The Israeli helmet-mounted display is one of the 14 specific enhancements the India-ordered Rafales will have.

Qatar and Pakistan have strong military cooperation ties. It is estimated that over 600 Pakistani troops are posted in Qatar as part of the defence pact.

The Qatar Air Force also has a number of Pakistani personnel, but mostly for maintenance.

Indian team in France
Currently, a large number of IAF officials are in France overseeing the progress of the Rafale production, and getting trained on the systems.

While seven IAF pilots are receiving training in France — this number will eventually rise to 20 — about 50 air force personnel from the engineering and maintenance wing are also getting trained there.

Seeking explanation from France. Get off your high horse, you delusional Indians. You are buying just 36 jets not the whole Dassault factory.

Egypt got 26 jets within 2 years of decision and order. You have taken 12 years to decide, agreed 126 jets to buy and then scaled back to 36. You cant be more ridiculous than this!

India acting like they exported jets to Qatar and France.

If Pakistan has helped India become what it is today then India is surely doomed by Pakistan's help. Your situation is miserable. Freaking 4 jets lost to 0 against Pakistan? Even when your airforce is 5 times bigger - and still this result? Statistically that is an effect of 20:0!

And now your "only" hope (Rafael) is dating with PAF. Pakistani pilots are not training training against Rafael, but training IN Rafael and not just trained by fellow pilots but French trainers are preparing Pakistan Airforce to fight against Pakistan's enemy. Are you still feeling the "help" ?
We have Cutting edge tech that no one shares, we have our own ballistic missiles, our own cryogenic engines, our own ABM's, our own ASAT missiles, our own Boomers, do you know where it came from? It came from the "No" of Superpowers, Now the only option for India is to make its own MCA, and you have pushed the file deep into ACM's office, and he is in no mood to F around...:)

@pahadi What is use of your "cutting edge tech" when your airforce cannot face a 5 times smaller enemy? Isin't your "cutting edge tech" more of a "cutting edge humiliation" ? No? Good - Pakistan is happy India being such a "cutting edge".

No it isnt, its for keeping countries like you at bay, these cutting edge weapons have changed your attitude and posture, earlier it used to be Pakistan that used to start hostilities because you felt confident, these weapons have put you into being defensive all the time, to the limits that you are ready to bomb your own land with nukes if Indian Armour enters Pakistan, what happened on 27 feb was an ambush, earlier on 26 feb IAF to had set an ambush for PAF, but you were to scared to retaliate, IAF took you peeps too lightly(that is their mistake), but they wont commit same mistake again and again.....

Weather Pakistan spanked you because of your mistake or not - it is clear that Indian "cutting edge" weapons have zero deterrence and zero utility for your own defence. Didn't Modi said if Rafael were operational results would've been different? Unless you have comprehension issues, what your PM is saying means India is behind and need Rafael to get equal or better than Pakistan. What you imagine "cutting edge" is failing to protect your air and land - and the world has witnessed that in practice.

Understandable how the PAF being too smart for IAF's amateur plans needs to be rationalised as cowardice for you to still keep on going with yourself. Apart from the fact that the PAF then returned the very next day in broad day light, only hours after announcing on TV that they would, penetrated Indian controlled airspace and the Indian military's psyche, bombed Indian installations, and deflated around 1.3 billion mouths. I don't blame you, the cognitive dissonance you must be experiencing right now would have made me go drown in chulu bhar pani or at least not show my face on this forum for a few years. But then you don't have any shame now do you?

Oh and the way all those mighty Su-30s, Mirage 2000s and Mig-21s just stood there, making sure to remain beyond the battle's reach, without firing a shot at those 'dozens of PAF jets', abandoning those two IAF pilots to cross the LOC alone, witnessing them both get shot down like mosquitoes, watching them fall to the ground in great balls of fire....must have taken quite a bit of courage.

I don't know about that but what has definitely happened though is that IAF, against all common sense and professionalism, has let the Indian national past time of 'thumping their chests, spewing bs about their ability, claiming false superiority and then actually believing in it themselves' become a part of their official military strategy. It was only a matter of time that they'd be meted out the humiliation that they were.
