exhibition last week in Abu Dhabi a model of the P600 early warning aircraft that it is developing in collaboration with the Aerospace Industry (Alta). The companies also jointly marketed the aircraft at the recent Aero India show, but remain tight-lipped about the status of the program. The P600 is based on the airframe of the Embraer Praetor 600 business jet, equipped with a state-of-the-art S-band Elta AESA digital radar, with low weight and high efficiency in the back radome. The aircraft will also incorporate civil and military IFF, ESM, ELINT and COMINT systems, and an advanced self-defense suite. The P600 will be equipped with a comprehensive communications package that includes data networks and satellite links for beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) operation. The configuration shown combines three operator workstations, with the Arkhe mission management system from Embraer Group's Atech that is expected to reduce workload by automatically creating and maintaining the integrated air and terrain picture using integrated sensors. The antenna array provides 240 degrees of coverage (120 degrees on each side of the aircraft), and the use of Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology promises to provide good range and electronic countermeasures performance. Moreover, the aircraft will have a cruise ceiling of up to 40,000 feet, a cruise speed of up to Mach 0.8, a flight time of seven and a half hours and the ability to operate from a runway of 6,200 feet. The two companies signed a cooperation agreement to develop the P600 in June 2019, but a senior source in the program said they are still looking for a first customer. Neither company necessarily expects the Brazilian or Israeli Air Force to be a first customer, as Brazil is pursuing an ambitious E-99M modernization program for its five ERJ-145-based AEW aircraft, which have many years of service ahead of them. Israel currently operates the ELTA G550 CAEW which entered operational service only in 2008. Both partners bring extensive experience to the development of the P600 AEW. IAI builds special mission aircraft based on commercial aircraft, as well as a global supplier of airborne radars. The company's portfolio includes the development of the E-550A platform with Gulfstream-based CAEW, with two aircraft to Israel, four to Singapore and two to Italy, all equipped with radar EL/W-2085. Embraer developed the EMB-145RS, or E-99, for the Brazilian Air Force, incorporating the Saab Erieye AEW radar with the ERJ-145 airframe. Similar aircraft were exported to Mexico (EMB-145AEW&C) and Greece (five Erieye EMB -145H AEW&C).Ember has also supplied three EMB 145i airframes to India's Netra AEW programme.
