ICC Men's Cricket World Cup

Fog has interrupted the match.

India = 100 - 2
Incredible... Temp in 15° in dharamshala and play is stopped due to fog.

Pakistan will play in chennai tomorrow and temp will be around 32°... There will be high temp...

It will be going to a very tough match for india.

It's now - 50-50.. Anyone can win

India finally got stretched by NZ and a few chinks showed in their armour. The injury to Hardik turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Shami finally got a game and put in a performance that will make it difficult to drop him. I would rate him higher than Siraj in the pecking order, so it is unfathomable that he was being benched. Another world-class bowler whose exclusion makes no sense is Ashwin. Any other team would kill to have him.

If Hardik is fit for the next match, it will be a selection headache for India, but they should resist the temptation of going back to the Hardik/Shardul package. Shardul is a good utility player, but it makes no sense for him to play ahead of world-class matchwinners like Shami, Ashwin and SKY.

Why oh why😂

Wasn't ever a stretch, at 5 wickets down the betting rate was +250 to India.

Look at this, Indian team that never midfields dropped three straight catches against the other best team in WC, dropped it Vice captain and then it's captain to injuries, ending with the discussion whether Kohli was gonna match Tendulkars record, not if it was gonna win, that was a given..

Shami and Kohli put unbeaten India top of the table

India's pace attack played a starring role in bowling NZ out for 273 despite Mitchell's ton

India 274 for 6 (Kohli 95, Rohit 46, Jadeja 39*, Ferguson 2-63) beat New Zealand 273 (Mitchell 130, Ravindra 75, Shami 5-54, Kuldeep 2-73) by four wickets

They were without their most irreplaceable player in a top-of-the-table clash against a New Zealand side that's had the wood over them in recent global-tournament meetings, and this New Zealand side put them under severe pressure on multiple occasions.

But in the end, India continued to typify the 2023 World Cup equivalent of Gary Lineker's famous quote on a superteam from a different sport: "Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and in the end, the Germans always win."

We're still only halfway through the league stage, and knockouts are knockouts, but India have looked so hard to beat that even this game, their most intense tussle yet in this tournament, ended with Virat Kohli trying to repeat what he did against Bangladesh on Thursday, and refuse singles with India in sight of victory in order to try and reach his hundred.

It didn't quite happen this time, with the attempted winning six on 95 ending up as a catch on the midwicket boundary, but India sauntered home nonetheless, with Ravindra Jadeja pulling Matt Henry for four to complete the job with two overs to spare. Jadeja made an unbeaten 39, a vital innings given that he came in at No. 7 with India still 83 away from victory.

With Hardik Pandya out injured, India replaced him with two players, a specialist batter in Suryakumar Yadav and a specialist fast bowler in Mohammed Shami, which meant India's batting effectively ended with Jadeja at No. 7.

The lack of batting depth was counterbalanced, however, by the increased menace of India's pace attack, who played a starring role in bowling New Zealand out for 273 after they had been 178 for 2 at one stage.

Shami, playing his first game of the tournament, led the way with his second five-wicket haul in World Cups, his bullying of New Zealand's lower order the centerpiece of a superlative effort by India in the last 10 overs, where they took six wickets while conceding just 54.

Particularly impressive was India's shackling of Daryl Mitchell, New Zealand's top scorer.

Mitchell had put on 159 for the third wicket with Rachin Ravindra, and reached an exactly run-a-ball hundred in the 41st over, but India kept him to just 30 off his last 27 balls. He was ninth out in the final over, caught on the wide long-on boundary to give Shami his fifth wicket.

after todays game it’s clear - this is India’s World Cup - they have all the bases covered. The complete team Sami just comes in and bowls superbly. Only team that could beat India is themselves.

Cricket hain bhai Jan. Law of average can catch up anytime any team. India, though the chief contender at the moment, anything can happen in the knock outs.

Shami should be in the eleven, take Thakur out man. What a beautiful bowling, and on his comeback. Jiyo Shami and make us win again and again. Lovely

Yaar

Stop underplaying India look better than good. They lost Hardik - yet handled it well. As I’ve said got all bases covered. Handled losing early wickets against Australia very well. Have looked relaxed in the other games

India is looking like the strongest contender, but it is still early days. They do have a problem with batting depth. In the old days, India could rely on the likes of Tendulkar, Ganguly, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Raina to get a substantial number of overs through and, therefore, play an extra batsman. In the present team, none of top batsmen has bowled at the international level in a long time.

The last match showed the importance of playing 5 crack bowlers. Hopefully, India continue with that. Also, in my opinion, for the playoffs, Ashwin should play ahead of Kuldeep. Kuldeep is a great bowler but often withers under pressure. Ashwin is one of the all time greats who loves pressure and also solves the problem of batting depth.
