In first year, Modi govt cleared defence proposals worth Rs 1L crore

nothing to lose, eh??

Any body can discuss any thing in forums but working in ground and loosing your income for the sake of humanity is different thing.

NEW DELHI: BAE Systems, the world's leading gun maker, will identify its main Make in India partner for the M777 ultra-light howitzer project within two months, officials said.

The project, being set up as part of the recently cleared $700-million, or about Rs 4,450-crore, deal to acquire 145 M777 howitzers for the Indian Army, will benefit as many as 40 small and medium enterprises in the country, they said.

The US firm also plans to shift the final production unit of the how ..

NEW DELHI: Hidden in the details of the government's Wednesday big-bang 'Make in India' push in the defence production was the fine print about the Russian deal, by nomination not tender, to manufacture 200 Kamov Ka 226 light helicopters, so desperately needed to replace the ageing Cheetah fleet which services one of the world's highest military deployments on the Siachen glacier. Work on this had begun right after Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit in December.

Assurances were ex ..

1. you don't even know the forums nor my responsibilities nor the projects... those two forums were jamahiri socialist forums.

2. if i wanted to only do jobs, i wouldn't be on those forums... i simply would have said "to hell with world's sufferings, i love my salary".

3. to make changes in the world, one need not work in slums.

There is a good chance the whole deal to buy M-777 might blow up in the face of the MoD.

The initial deal offered by the Pentagon was 145 Guns for 647 million $. This was translated into INR based on the then price of USD to the Rupee which was Rs 45.86. That is how the figure of Rs. 2,900 crores was arrived at.

But at today's price, 647 million $ is equal to Rs. 4,100 Crores.

So when this goes to the Finance Ministry for clearance, it is likely to be Rejected since its 30% higher cost and we end up back in square one.

This will only move forward if BAE offers a reduced price since it has wound up production of M-777.

Members of the DAC are Minister of State of Defence, the Defence Secretary, the Chiefs of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. The Secretary, Defence Production, the Financial Adviser, and the Special Secretary (acquisition).

So the question will be, who screwed up ? Parrikar will end up taking the blame.

I don't think so. The original bid was made many years ago so how can the validity of that bid extend to today? This is what happens if you wait and wait- the cost of deals goes up and we know that since 2011 the INR-USD ER has soared. At least this new deal will include production in India- something the original deal never did, no way is the Fin Min going to do anything but rubber stamp this deal.

It's absurd to expect the ER of years ago to be used today when BAE didn't extend the validity of their bid.

No one has screwed up beyond sitting on this deal for god knows how long. Let this be a lesson to the MoD to take decisions ASAP- this is not the first time India will end up paying more because of the ridiculous amount of delays in defence deals.
