India Asked Lanka to Stop Colombo Port City Project

Doesn't matter what MR did. Policy of current government to isolate Sri Lanka from China has major consequences on Sri Lanka. US as an alternative nowadays doesn't come with investment opportunities but with "freedom and democracy".

Buddy don't think that China is the last resort.Like a proverb saying 'Dont allow a guest to become an owner of your house'

Isolating China today is like isolating US and Japan in the 1960s, 70s. The cost would be too much to bear.

This is the rajapakse family firm with all ministers family members of the PM. They all speak for each other and were paid hundreds of millions in corruption by the Chinese. The money safe in offshore accounts. They were decisively voted out by the Sri Lankans and the port contracts reviewed. What he says is part of the coverup to muddy waters so this presented as a China vs India issue. It isnt. Its about Rajapakse clans corruption.

To hell with Sri Lanka or her corrupt politicians! India never had any interest in policing Sri Lanka or its corrupt internal politics.

If India is ever compelled to interfere with who SL wants to deal with, it is mainly because of India's own security ramifications!

Sri Lanka has time and again, taken anti-India stands at crucial times - even when they had the choice of taking neutral stand! It is for this reason that India has to, time and again, caution Sri Lanka not to do anything harmful to Indian interests!

Here comes the girlfriend.Ok investment is a good thing. But Sri Lanka lets Chinese submarine land in their water too.Its enough sign for us.If they play against India's interest they will played by us ..Don't be a crybaby.Blame their higher authorities & citizens ..

Exactly! The Sri Lankans have always tried to take an antagonistic stand against India even when they could very easily have stayed NEUTRAL!

Right from Cold war era, when SL allowed US the SIGINT facilities against India at her Radio Ceylon stations to Sri Lanka's active support to Pakistan during 1971 war by allowing Pakistani Navy berthing facilities and PAF the refueling facilities when they could have easily chosen to stay NEUTRAL!

Pak thanks Lanka for help in 1971 war

1971 India Pakistan War: Role of Russia, China, America and Britain

So then what do you expect the 'bitch' Indira Gandhi (paraphrasing Nixon's words) to do to Sri Lanka in return for their favors?

Everybody talks about Indian support to LTTE, but selectively forgets what role Sri Lanka played against India in her earlier conflicts with Pakistan (during 1971 war, which actually predates the ghastly LTTE violence) and with the US (during cold war days).

Remember, there were several other smaller countries (like Nepal, Bhutan and even Myanmar) which were much more closer to the actual conflict zone in East Pakistan but chose to play it wise by staying neutral!

Hahahaha brilliant. :D

It is like saying - what was US's problem when Soviets built a missile base in Cuba?
Port city is a commercial project you moron.

Why would Chinese build a naval base in the downtown?

The truth is even if a Chinese or American tourist goes to toilet in Sri Lanka, it's a threat to India.

Where did I say anything about the Port City?

Refer to the post that I quoted first before resorting to personal attacks!

Besides, past experiences have taught India to be wary of Sri Lanka's intentions which has time and again, been a voluntary antagonist of her much bigger neighbor even when totally unnecessary.

Obviously Sri Lanka has been asking for trouble!

What is India's problem with it's neighbours progressive projects?
Because india is like one "friend" that everyone has that always want to keep you down. They will criticize your entrepreneurial ideas, stop you from attending higher education, etc. In a nutshell, to make sure your lifestyle is worse than his/her.

True! Every word of it! BTW, what do China's neighbors in SCS say about China?

Anyway, India, at least, doesn't build artificial islands in hotly contested international waters and change the geography itself!

Imagine the reactions of Sri Lankans here if India had done anything remotely similar to how China handles her disputes in SCS!

Submarines didn't dock in port city. And they didn't target India but they targeted Shinzo Abe because submarines came when Shinzo Abe was in Sri Lanka. In China's eyes, it doesn't see India as a threat, it's simply irrelevant to China but they care a lot about Japan hence the submarine incident. On Sri Lanka's part, it should maintain relations with every useful country so China's decision to treat Sri Lanka as a "tributary state" was uncalled for.

I don't think you are qualified to let us know about what the Chinese leadership think of India. So ignoring that part, those were Chinese nuke subs that visited Sri Lanka, not any commercial ship. Every country has the right to protect its interest, I think as neighbors we should respect each others concerns and sensibilities. And cooperation, not confrontation is the way to go forward.

We Asians need to bury our differences,be they ideological、political、cultural or religious, and work together toward a common goal:economic prosperity, and all that that comes with economic prosperity。
