India congratulates China on its election as vice-president of FATF

Lol gray list prevents investments & higher tariffs, if Pakistan can't pay back Chinese debts in the next 10 years it will become a another Sri Lanka sucked by Chinese debts.

Are you really that ignorant or pretends to be one for the sake of argument ? Pakistan was on the list in between 2012-2015 yet Pak-China signed ground breaking CPEC project.

Check out FDIs in Pakistan over the years especially for the year 2013-14 when Pakistan was in the so called grey list:

China FDI in 2013-14 was even better than 2014-15.

is FATF only controlled by India? How come it's deal between Modi and China? Other members obviously had given their consent too, Indians are like, India allowed China to become VP! Fanboys.

Ultimate fanboys

In June the 2 options are grey list (if Pakistan submits a plan) or blacklist (if it doesn't). The reason Pakistan did not get grey listed now is because it hasnt submitted an action plan without which, the option is only black listing. And since the proposal was not for blacklist, that was not an option.

So ? if we come up with the action plan and than it shouldn't be that issue and we can get out from any list pretty soon. No way in the world, we were getting sanctioned as it was depicted. For Indians, even grey list is dooms day scenario for Pakistan.

Anyways US under Trump, is badly after us and they are looking for excuses to sanctioned us. So Pakistan has to play smart diplomacy and to do lots of homework. As I said earlier, we can still bail our self out in nearby future provided we don't drop the ball.

Right all the world media is doing propaganda on poor Pakistan . International Papers like

NYtimes
WJS
Reuters
Arabnews
Dawn
Tribune

That's not how it works , in june you are placed on the gray list ,where you have to submit a workplan to effectively crub terrorist funding , if it is satisfactory you won't be placed in the black list .

its already in progress, please update yourself!

China wants to isolate Pakistan from its former nato "allies"like U.K. & U.S. less trade with EU/west means more trade with China, & xi gets to control Pakistan like Mongolia
Yes, Mongolia is a 200 million nuclear armed nation with a geostrategic location that is unparalelled in contemporary history.

Why ??? Because FATF during that time was only about money laundering. But the scenario has changed a lot since they have added terror financing and distribution clause under FATF premises lately. And if you can see it's not just U.S, but most of the EU nations are also victims of this so called menace of terrorism. So this time around it will be an entirely different ball game. I hope you understand that. :)

China had to backout from supporting Pakistan because it needed three members minimum to defeat the US lead resolution, after Saudi backing out options for China were either it backs out too and saves face or keep on supporting Pakistan and get defeated, which would have been a blot on it's diplomacy

I have been following the news for past few days and I keep wondering why on earth have we failed to take the right measures, specially since 2012-2015 when we were included in the list. Instead of relying on our friends to bail us out, why not work to implement the the security system to keep check on money laundering and terror funding in the first place?
Ban charities to begin with, put controversial and alleged masterminds under house arrest and start lobbying to restore our soft image.

Our foreign policy need to be overhauled, we need a foreign affairs ministry to start with.

Asw,
totally agree with you

Sab chalta he
or
All is well mentality
has destroyed us.
No planning, no execution, haughtiness, blame game is what we see in our policies and also in this forum.
Question is not why India or US played this game where our staunchest friend China had to back down too. (If at all the news is true)

Million dollar question is why we are showing weakness in uprooting this menace called terrorist groups. Why we are not implementing national action plan. Why still in our madrassahs teachings against the very core of Islam are being taught?
Why goons like rizvi etc can highjack our national highways etc and we can't do anything?
Who is to blame for that?
India, US, Israel, or China?
No
Ourselves would be the right answer.
Thanks,
Adnan

You are right.. If Pakistan creates a tangible plan and shows forward movement on strengthening Anti Money laundering and anti terror finance policies, it should be matter of months for it to get out of that list. Don't think sanctions are on the table anyway.Being on this list just makes international business a little tougher.

FATF is new lollipop for bharatis I think. Let them suck it.

Congrats to Chinese for being elected vp in FATF.

Now whether the withdrawal of Chinese support was because of this election is another story. I doubt it was that important for the Chinese.

Anyway, one thing is for sure, we are betting a bit too much on China as an ally. True China has proven itself as a much more trustworthy partner than US, but the scenario is changing rapidly. We have repeated the same 50's era mistake.

The thing is even if let's say China does not veto the next SC vote on JEM, do you think we have a choice to reconsider our relationship with them? No our defense is now entirely dependent upon the imports and technical know how provided by the Chinese. Our indigenisation efforts are also totally dependent upon the Chinese willingness to share their expertise. And economy, well less said the better, I don't know if CPEC will actually push our economy or not but it surely has made it entirely dependent upon Chinese lenders.

Some geniuses often suggest that instead of going to IMF and World Bank we should borrow from ICBC, and we are. The thing is we are getting completely dependent on one partner, this will only backfire.

So Chinese know that Pakistan has no more choices, so yes they will support us but even if they don't we can't do much about it can we.

We need to improve our relationships with the West, this confrontational approach will only create more problems for us. At the same time we have to remove groups like JEM, JUD etc that are putting strains on our relationship with the our allies especially the Chinese, I mean they are in their rights to be agitated about having to use their veto power just to save one Maulana Masood Azhar.

And although this has become a cliche, but it is something that our people need to understand, countries have their relationships based on interests, just by calling someone your brother does not make it one. For a long time during Chinese isolation, we were their window to the West and hence the Henry Kissinger episode. Secondly we had a common enemy in India. Now Chinese are no longer isolated and India is more of a rival than an enemy for them now.

Of course it does not mean that our Chinese friends don't value our friendship or won't stand with us in our hour of need, but let's not strain our relationship by putting them in difficult diplomatic positions. We need more diplomatic partners and less enemies. We need to avoid confrontation at all cost, until we are economically, militarily and diplomatically at least as strong as Turkey is.

India on Sunday congratulated China on its election as vice-president of the global money laundering watchdog, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a development that comes on the back of news reports and speculation that a deal on giving China a larger role in the FATF had been reached.

Obviously fake news. How do I know? Indian media has been stating that India worked on China to go against Pakistan in a highly political circus act. Let me repeat this: India persuaded China to go against Pakistan. Ha!

Their media has gone Bollywood. What a script

So Chinese know that Pakistan has no more choices, so yes they will support us but even if they don't we can't do much about it can we.

Only thing Pak can count on: What Pakistan can do for itself and compel others to do (ie hold bargaining chip and bargain harder.)

Can't blame China at all. We are working towards a multi-polar world order; Pak should have more breathing room once it comes about. We just have to go through the pain of doing our part.
