What's new

India Developing, but still a long way to go

Seems like a bit early for a town/city as small as Kochi to have a Metro! The big Tier 1 cities should have it first then Tier 2 and so on and so forth.

Oh well- a good niggle to have! Too many metros !!

May be its a political victory & also because of the strong support & involvement of India's metro man E. Sreedharan. Eventhough the city is small the traffic in Kochi is very annoying.

Actually the project was expected to start by 2006 and complete by 2010. But was delayed bcz the Central Government is worried about the economic viability of the project.

Not sure if this is this is the right thread to ask this. But do you guys think there should be a sustained campaign to impart civic sense to our people? Being courteous to others , keeping the surroundings clean etc. How should we go about it?

We also need good programs at schools and collages for community service so that the future citizens are more socially responsible.

Kochi Metro = Baby Metro
Maybe wannabe Metro, plus Kerala govt. has petrodollar repatriate money to throw around.

Re: Civic sense bit is happpening bit-by-bit, it's the ghetto class illiterates who lower the standards even for the 1/2 literate middle class too.

Govt. to blame too as they have packed all cleaning dept.'s with 'enlightened' mehter's who don't buy into the dignity of labour, work is worship, and education is everything ethic of India. They want money for nothing, retroactively.

Solution: Outsource cleaning work to 'non-cleaner' caste, automation driven pvt. companies.

@nair @Brahmos_2 @Koovie Do you know the reason behind choosing station like Thaikoodam and Petta?
Do they have any relevance at least in future?

Actually, we are building metros in two more cities also.. Cochin have worse traffic conditions... Narrow roads make life miserable along with the competition among private buses.. I have first hand experience living there..If you are in a car, it take more than 1 hour to pass just three km in a rush hour.
