200 kph trials are slated for next month (June 2016)

"It is a nine-coach set. One coach will have oscillograph and another speed trial equipment, and the train will be pulled by a WDP4 or WAP 5 locomotive capable of pulling at speeds of 180kmph. The trials will test the stability of the train, its top speed in Indian track conditions and the emergency braking distance. It could herald a new era if the trials are successful,"

For optimum performance we should have had stuck with full Talgo system, means its locomotive too. Also I am not sure how good EMDs will be. However WAP5 is all good.

But I was going through an IRFCA thread , there a person explained that the coaches of Talgo, will not be able to accommodate Side berths , thus requiring additional coaches , but then the problem will be with WAP5, an extra will be needed ...

Ankit, owing to some changes required in signalling, coaches are being tested behind an established loco as of now. IR wishes to see stability & oscillation tests in first part of trials. Later if IR choose yo run these trains commercially, these will be with original configuration power cars.

Awesome!!! Suresh Prabhu is probably the best rail minister we got till date. :)

A low cost and faster way of upgrading our ail service to semi-HSR standard.

That cures my anxiety .

And one more question , there was a news that IR is planning an exclusive 20 km railway track only for such kinds of trials , any movement on that ?

Where it all begins (Diesel Locomotive works).
This is the birthplace of new generation 4500 and 5500 HP Diesel electric locomotives for Indian Railways.
(notice WDG 5 at 1:13)
DLW manufacturers close to 300 locomotives an year, which after rigorous testing are sent to different zones for commissioning and regular service.

Presently DLW manufactures 4500 HP WDP 4D (Passenger loco) and WDG 4D (Freight locomotive) and 5500 HP WDG 5 (Freight locomotive)

These Talgo coaches should be made in India, instead of importing. Guess, it will be done, once they are tested and certified for Indian conditions.

Talgo has provided these coaches free of cost and borne the testing cost for these trials. If successful, India has proposed to manufacture these trainsets (RENFE TALGO 250) in India and eventually these will be used on Class A routes to provide upto 225 kph fast service where HST service is not possible.
