Little confusing. Are we going to build warships or airships ?

Airships bole to aircraft carriers ? 32 :woot:

32 aircraft carriers is insane and definitely over overkill! Noone needs that many behemoths considering the no of boats which go into each aircraft carrier fleet!

Considering that the original source is the Chinese xinhuanet.com website, English spelling mistakes are common. So relax, the author probably means warships than airships! Typo!

Airships are not aircraft carriers. lol. Imagine a country having 32 aircraft carriers!!!! We would rule the seas![At this moment, the entire world are just 22 aircraft carriers, out which 12 belong to US]

An airship[a term used by the Navy] describes a Tank Landing Ship. The main idea is to give a serious boost to Indian Navy's amphibious capabilities. Both in terms of being able to land soldiers, and MBT's.

In January this year, IA speak spoke about the importance of having formidable amphibious capability, so as to be able to strike deep into enemy strongholds.

Strong Amphibious capability needed, to improve strike capabilities:IA Chief

INS Airavat is the world's largest amphibious assault ship, at this moment:

I had a laugh at airships = air craft carriers. 32 air craft carriers would be crazy lol

How many defense production schedules have India until now been able to deliver on time !

There is no confusion. In the second sentence, the news item makes things very clear.

"The Indian Navy would build 32 warships and six submarines using indigenous technology by the year 2012,"

No, airship is an airship. There was just a misspell in the original article.

Or you are talking about LCAC, but there only 4 types of LCAC are operational in the world, and I don't think India possesses any of those.
Air-cushioned landing craft

By definition Airavat is not an amphibious assault ship to begin with let alone it is the largest. Shardul only has a displacement of 5655 tons fully loaded compares to true amphibious assault ship Wasp class's 40500 tons fully loaded. It is just a Landing Ship, Tank or LST, and trust me that some WWII era LSTs were even larger than it.

The indian military is beggining to build right accross the 3 services ie full spectrum.

FINAS infantry system X 1 MILLION troops

The list of projects is massive and is growing annually with lots of joint tie ups with Russia & Israel in particular

How many defense production schedules have India until now been able to deliver on time !

Almost all the deliveries for Indian Navy by GRSE, MDL, CSL, GS are always ahead of schedule delivery date until now if there re no major last moment design changes by DND or if there were no hitches in parts delivery by foreign countries.

Not only naval but most commercial deliveries by these shipyards have always been ahead of schedule.

And as for your concern , delivery targets will now become more achievable with more private and foreign participation and building of better and bigger drydocs.

And not only in naval products but you will see these trends in other services as well, insallah.

Airships are cool
especially the kind of advancement made today
