Praveen Pathak, spokesman for BrahMos Aerospace, told India Today: "We expect friendly nations-with whom neither India nor Russia have a conflict - to show an interest in buying these missiles."

The Russia-India committee has determined 14 countries including Chile, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, which can purchase the Indo-Russian supersonic BrahMos cruise missiles, according to BrahMos Aerospace enterprise spokesman Praveen Pathak.


"The Russia-India committee has determined 14 countries, with which we can discuss the supplies [of BrahMos missiles]. The list includes Chile, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa among others," Pathak told RIA Novosti.

According to Pathak, the countries, which maintain good relations with both Russia and India, are in the list.


The first contract can be signed in 2016, the spokesman added.

BrahMos is a short-range supersonic missile, which has been in use by the Indian Navy since 2005. The missile has a range of 180 miles and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 660 pounds.

Manufacturer of the missile, BrahMos Aerospace, is an India-Russia joint company named after the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva.

I was under the impression Vietnam already operates the Basion-P coastal defense missile system. The BrahMos would add little to no operational advantage over that existing system, unless it is placed aboard vessels; the deal seems to be more of a message for the Chinese rather than a genuine need for the BrahMos.
