India to share part of Mumbai blasts evidence with Pakistan
India will be sharing only some part of the evidence gathered by it in the Mumbai blasts case when foreign secretary level talks take place next week in New Delhi, since other evidence cannot be shared without filing a formal chargesheet in the case.
Official sources said that by handing over this selective evidence, it will put Pakistan to ââ¬Ëtestââ¬â¢ over its sincerity to address the issue of cross border terrorism.
ââ¬ÅNot just Mumbai blasts, the campaign of bomb attacks against India since last December will come up in the talks,ââ¬Â said a senior official.
ââ¬ÅCertain lines of investigation which can be followed up by Pakistan will be handed over. Before we file a chargesheet, we have a duty to follow up some leads in the investigations,ââ¬Â said an official source.
On the question over whether India had clinching or credible evidence of Pakistanââ¬â¢s involvement in the blasts, MEA sources said that the evidence was ââ¬Åenough to convinceââ¬Â the people about Pakistanââ¬â¢s involvement in the blasts.
ââ¬ÅPakistan should be seen to recognise its stated commitment to prevent terrorism in any manner,ââ¬Â said the sources. ââ¬ÅWe are neither hopeful nor despondent with the kind of evidence that we have and the future of the talks,ââ¬Â said the official.
Terrorism will be the main theme at the talks which will look at the evolving joint mechanism on terror. ââ¬ÅWe will also review the past few meetings that have been held, and the progress made in solving outstanding issues,ââ¬Â said the official.
ââ¬ÅOur hope is that we will use this round of talks to get some satisfaction on the issue of terror,ââ¬Â said an official. ââ¬ÅWe also hope to evolve some kind of joint mechanism on terror during the two days of talks,ââ¬Â said the official.
On the matter of Sir Creek, efforts are on to undertake a ââ¬Åjoint surveyââ¬Â of the creek itself, sources said.
