India.....

Why don't Indian government just hang these thugs? The British would have no problem dealing out harsh punishment for the criminals.
Simple! 5% of our netas in Parliament and legislatures have been accused of rape and their trials are pending! These buggers sitting in Parliament are not Law Makers but Law Breakers. So how do you expect any justice and stringent laws to be made in Parliament by these dorks?

Remember a few months ago, three of our worthy knucklehead netas in Parliament were caught watching **** in Parliament? And they bl00dywell got away with it!! Jeeez!

Is there any hope for this country when we have these ratbags sitting in Parliament lording over us? We got our independence from the Britishers but got enslaved again by these a$$holes. We need to fight back and send these thugs packing.

The parents had invested all their hopes in their daughter and believed she would recover soon, says the counsellor from Delhi Legal Services Authority, who had met the family on more than one occasion at the Safdarjung Hospital, where the gang-rape victim had been earlier admitted.

After a nearly two-week long heroic battle, the 23-year-old paramedical student succumbed to injuries in the early hours of Saturday at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, where she had been shifted to earlier this week.

On her last scheduled visit to meet the family, the counsellor, who didn’t want to be named, said she had been denied access.

“The last time I went, I wasn’t allowed to meet her. I realized that something was up. It was the day she was flown to Singapore,” she said.

On Wednesday night, the critically-injured victim was flown in an air ambulance to Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth hospital.

“I met the family more than one occasion to provide them with legal and social support. The Bar Council subsequently offered to give them the best lawyers. So I gave the family all the papers. They wanted it in Hindi and so I gave it to them in Hindi,”she said.

The brutality of the attack, said the counselor, had left the mother ‘totally shaken and shattered’.

“The father remained confident that his daughter would get well. He enquired about finding her a job. A local politician who also present was making them all sorts of promises,” she said.

The counsellor described the family as being ‘very close-knit’ one. The family is reportedly from Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district.

“They have two young sons. I think they are doing part-time jobs. They wanted to study further. The father works in a public transport company. They had invested everything in their daughter. She would have become a physiotherapist and gone on to support her family,” the counsellor said.

A feeling utter helplessness, recalled the counselor, came over her when she saw the victim.

“I only caught a glimpse of her. I wanted to say to her that we are there for her, don’t worry. More than her, given the condition she was in, I felt helpless,” she said.

The mother, the counselor said, was in no position to converse or meet people. “In a situation like this, you lose faith in God, in everything. The mother was oblivious to who was coming or going.”

Commending the Safdarjung Hospital for protecting the privacy of the family, the counselor said, “The hospital did an excellent job of monitoring access to the family. Also, in terms of medical care, they did everything they could. There were 5-6 doctors who were attending to her.”

Urging the media to keep the focus on violence against women, the counselor said: “The media should also highlight and remain alert about other rape cases as well. Two months ago, I visited a rape victim in Sangam Vihar, where a 16-year-old was raped by her neighbor. Her mother is shattered. There many such cases. The media should take them up.”

They should be given meat cleavers so they can cut the rapists balls and hang them out to dry!

I agree, they should make an example of a whole lot of them, put the fear of death in them to make them stop to think before attempting to molest any girl.

Delhi has become notorious and it is not a recent phenomenon - My wife who grew up in Delhi would tell stories of how the men would harrass the women and girls with eve teasing, molestations in buses and even a girl was shot because she overtook some men and was speeding past them. But that is not just in Delhi alone. Chennai has the same issue and other cities as well. I remember a girl called Sarika Shah who died in Chennai in 1998 which brought in some tough laws and reduced the eve teasing to certain extent but still it prevails. Atleast hopefully the men wake up to this malice.

dirty biharis and ups .... scum of India, scum of of humanity, deport them into the ocean.... filthiest people I have ever seen, now these scum is even invading my beautiful Kerala....

lol same here in my state have same problem .

lol same here in my state.

Sorry mate - do not do generalizing for a few criminals. These laborers from Bihar are being exploited in different states and in Tamilnadu I know for a fact these people are being paid half of what the TN workers are paid and I pity them. This is not their folly - their politicians are scumbags who has driven this mineral rich state to a sorry state. Hopefully with Nitish the state may once again start to shine in a few years.

Can anyone link to proper research done on the phenomenon in Delhi? which sheds some light on average age of victim, perpetrators etc?

Most of you guys are making it an exclusively criminal/ administrative case while its a social one.

Whats the age on consent in India? 18 or 21?

Very lucky the police were on the scene and on their game- identified the situation straight away and moved in. Hats off to those guys.

Education is needed for the idiots who act like this. Indian society needs to change. Those absurd protests last week should have been directed at Indian society and not the GoI by blaming the govt it is an easy target that allows Indians not to question themselves or their surroundings. What good would storming the parliament have done?

Like MMS said in his statement- Indians need to look within their society and identify those doing these awful things.

Sir don't be fooled by all the media coverage and back lash there is no "phenomenon" in Delhi or wider India as Delhi and India as a whole have some of the lowest per capita Rapes of most cities and countries on earth. For some reason a lot of coverage is given to such incidents maybe it is because if he brutality shown and the fact that as it is groups it shows it is somewhat organised. It would be wrong to think though that it was worse in India or Delhi than in say NYC or London.

You telling as If people in Bangalore/Kerala lack the tool for rape...:what:

May be... they should try the famous mallu porns from Kerala... eh.

1. I did not say that people in other areas dont rape, it happen everywhere in the world. But the safety in Bangalore is much better than compared to Delhi or even the so fancy developed area of Gurgaon.

2. watching **** is 9832626826246426246245626426246 Trillion times better than rape.

We've heard shocking stories of Taliban executing Women in pretext of violating strict Sharia laws. After what has happened in Delhi, those stories start lookin pretty Humane. Atleast the woman executed met a swift end to her life unlike here where a girl was made to suffer for so long and God alone knows how many more such girls bear the trauma physically and mentally in our society.

Till we stop looking at Women materialistically, and starts respecting rights of a woman, there is little chance that much is going to change.

PS: Woke up this morning to a very sad piece of news. As we argue over nit bits, heres a heart warming story of a girl Sheelu who fought argubly toughest battle of her life after rape. She had courage to stand and speak up and most importantly not hide her face.

More power to her, May your tribe grow. I Salute you!

Its not dependent on how a woman is dressed. It is dependent on indifference and increasing disrespect for women in the society.

Look at criminal psychology point of view and social influences. The basic reasons are far more different.

i dont know about criminal psychology but i know my psychology, I look more eagerly at a woman dressed in a revealing cloths than the one who is dressed modestly. similarly I tend to look at food more eagerly when i am hungry than when my stomach is full, and I look at BMW X6 more than 3 Series. but i have control some people dont have it and they will steal X6 only to get a joy ride. But some Liberals would say if a woman is dressed in sexy cloths doesnt mean she wants to have sex with everyone. I remember one toronto Cop got such a bad press because he told a woman if you are dressed like you are inviting rapist. So you cant tell woman not to dress and the rapist wont listen to your arguments. its catch 69
