INDIAN AWACS PROJECT - DRDO Targeting 2011 For Project Completion

And quite valid as well as since whatever we are gona field will definetly be way ahead of our rival in terms of technology since we have Phalcon in place so probablity of advanced model can't be ruled out. Since european countries themselves are joing venturing with Indian firms.

Provide a source that DRDO is capable enough to build an AEW&Cs better than the Erieye systems. I am sure the company will have its laughs.

The US denied Israel from selling Phalcons to China, and pakistan is going to jointly develop AWACs with china to get the cutting edge. How nice.

Chinese have already received a lot of expertise through the Russian AWACs and even from the Israel to some extent. Chinese AWACs program goes way back. India hasn't even started. Therefore, Pakistan will get its AWACs from China.. way earlier.

TRANSMIT/RECEIVER MODULE FOR ACTIVE PHASED ARRAY ANTENNA - Patent EP1279046

(WO/2001/077706) TRANSMIT/RECEIVER MODULE FOR ACTIVE PHASED ARRAY ANTENNA

Both this link have the explanation of each and every components that is being used in Airborne radar especially awacs as well as those which are still alien to most of us. In addition to it India has already developed its AESA radar for which I can provide you with the source upon insistance.

I am sure the company will have its laughs.

Yes, company would definetly have its laughs but it will be not be for long lasting one once they come across which their eyes could not have believe in after reading the views of the sites that I have mentioned above as what LRDE section of DRDO can manage to design and develop.

Sourcing of expertise from Russian Awacs as well as Israel one to some extent doesn't translate into development of advanced version of Awacs, but on the top of that how can you admit with conviction that chinese awacs technology is more advanced then Indian one when chinese technological inputs are often overshadowed by secrecy. Kindly provide concrete source like I have provided you with.

Chinese AWACs program goes way back. India hasn't even started.

Even duration or inception of Awacs program doesn't translate into superiority of chinese awacs over Indian one for e.g. Chinese have been developing Surface to air missile since decades but India manage to went on one step ahead and manage to develop anti ballastic mayhem AAD and PAD which even china couldn't so far despite of tonnes of experince as compared to their indian counterparts.

Therefore, Pakistan will get its AWACs from China.. way earlier.

Still can you provide us with some concrete evidence regarding acquisition of chinese awacs way earlier then Indian one?

With all due respect - do you even know what you're talking about ?

The first Indian AWACS flew during the 1996 Aero India airshow. The programme was begun in the nineties. Airborne surveillance platform (ASP)

12 years after the ASP was publicly demonstrated you claim the Indian programme has not even started ? Come on now - this was very silly.

Yes you will get, but the question is - is it "Cutting Edge" ? If yes- why the chinese are looking for Phalcons. Get the logic?

Ignorance is a crime....

Its nothing to do about whether the company is big or small, old or new. Look into the history of at least five to ten years to see how many of the todays Global giants emerged. People would have laughed at them some time back, but not any more... Know more about companies like Google..

Or from Indian context like Infosys, Tata, Satyam, Wipro, etc. There might have people who laughed at them. But the offshore-onsite project model that they brought up changed the world how the software industry functioned.. Example take Satyam J& ohn Der and co experimental business model....

I don't know how many examples the criticizers can bring up from the other side of the border.

India's R&D will grow and it has been taken with special interest to see that the R&D starts at a huge proportion at the Campus/university level itself....

I still remember the song we used to sing in the kindergartens " We shall over come .. we shall over come.."

Yes we will ; irrespective of what ever others throw, because we are cautious of what we think of ourself rather than what others think of us.......

This is the history of Indian AWACS project.

Interesting point is that while Indians are trying hard to show that Pakistan's selection of Ericeye system is bad DRDO itself has designed something that resembles Ericeye system.

ejaz,

Those are only drawing concepts. The DRDO's first AWACS when it flew crashed, killing all the people airborne.

But we should look at this project closely. DRDO's past isn't so good however.

What makes you think that? pls explain. What Erieye has got so much that makes India to show them off that it is bad?

DRDO itself has designed something that resembles Ericeye system.

Huh?

AESA radar that was developed for AWACS by DRDO roughly have the range of 300 km to detect fighter size target, whereas for Erieye it is 350 km. Then How does it sounds you DRDO itself has designed something resembles to erieye system? in addition to it the platform that was chosen by DRDO for configuring awacs over it was Avro unlike SAAB that is being used by Erieye.

Indian Air Force PHALCON AWACS to be Delivered by Jan-Feb 2009 | India Defence

Defence ministry sources said the first of the three Awacs, initially slated to be delivered in November 2007 under the $1.1-billion deal signed in March 2004, will now land in India by January-February 2009.

In the huge project, three Phalcon early-warning radars are being mounted on Russian heavy-lift IL-76 military aircraft under a tripartite agreement among India, Israel and Russia. "There have been technical hitches in the integration work. But we are pushing the Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) to deliver the first Awacs before the end of this year," said a source.

Technical glitches are not the only problem with the project. As reported by TOI earlier, there are allegations of kickbacks swirling around the deal, with reports holding India has been steeply overcharged for the Awacs. The government, however, has not given much credence to such reports, even though CBI is already investigating kickbacks in the original Rs 1,160-crore Israeli Barak-I anti-missile defence system contract, in which former defence minister George Fernandes, arms dealer Suresh Nanda and others have been named as the accused. This, of course, does not detract from the fact that IAF desperately needs the Phalcon Awacs, much like the Barak system was a crucial requirement for Navy.

Awacs, or "eyes in the sky", will help IAF detect incoming hostile cruise missiles and aircraft much before ground-based radars, apart from directing air defence fighters during combat operations with enemy jets. For instance, an Awacs flying over Amritsar will be able to detect a Pakistani F-16 fighter as soon as it takes off from its Sargodha airbase. India, incidentally, signed a $210-million deal with Brazilian firm Embraer for three aircraft in July for its own indigenous miniature Awacs project.

The indigenous AEW&C systems being developed by DRDO will be mounted on the three Embraer-145 jets, with the delivery of the first one slated for 2011-2012. The project is worth around Rs 1,800 crore. India, incidentally, is also on course to acquire four more Israeli Aerostat radars, at a cost of around $300 million, to bolster its ability to detect hostile low-flying aircraft, helicopters, spy drones and missiles.

The IAF's case for the new Aerostat radars as a "follow-on" order to the two such EL/M-2083 radars, inducted from Israel in 2004-2005 for $145 million, has finally been cleared by the Defence Acquisitions Council, headed by defence minister A K Antony, now.

After being in a limbo for some time due to the Barak kickbacks case, the defence ministry has decided to go full steam ahead with procurements and projects with Israel, which has notched up arms sales worth around $8 billion to India since the 1999 Kargil conflict. The ministry will, however, take a final clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Security and the "competent financial authority" before the new procurement deals are actually inked.

And that prototype crashed on its experimental flight,so what was being developed crashed, now they start again,so its new start ,.so cant you even understand that, even if your programme was going on why it needs another 5 years to be implemented on embraers, talking about radar your own proud rajendra radar was beaten by jungleeLTTE sometime back,so what are you trying to claim, that the drdo awacs will fly because it was developed but examples show that it wont work.:cheesy:

India's flying Testbeds

Regards,
ejaz007 , optimum range for any awacs at present is 300km-400 km,what matters is detection,
whats the point of saying that drdo wants to show,
show what? whom?whats the need of fashion show here? what does it benefits them or u to consider drdo awacs better than erieye,? why would an airforce/ research organisation will try hard to show 'you 'something?

post whatever you post with some proof other than misconceptions
and to check my claims about awacs range go to saab and iai websites...

wait for some more time and you will see . atleast we try to make our own weapons and we succeed . we made akash , multitarget sam which only few nations has made( russia , us , japan , eu ) .
we have made complete set of missiles in just 20 yrs .we are th only nation around here operating a aircraft carrier and also making one .
failures are part of development . we have only failed at one aspect thats arjun and you pick that up and start crying . and remember arjun is not over yet the techniques that we have developed while making arjun are being used to modernize t-72 and t-90 . so you see it helps in some way .
atleast we are not buying them off .

This is something that PAK Must consider. India at present is Trying to get Independet at Almost all Fronts .
( Excluding the Joint Plans )

1. LCA
2. ATV
3. Aircraft Carrier
4. IGMDP
5. AWACS
6. Dhruv
7. SLBM - Sagarika

These are the Successfu Ones if You include all the efforts , you see Indias have NOT been sitting Quiet.

On The other hand Just see in this Forum PAK always..has a great answer.. let it Come to China and we'll get it. Well This will harm your long Term Defence Strategy.

China ia an Economic super power, a Day will definately come when The Economic boost and the Indian Middle Class will be so lucertiave to China that Border Issues will become secondary, They have to cos war is NOT Good for any Nations development and Today or Tomorrow China will Seek the Huge market in India and the Importance of India as US and EU are saying.

If This happens , PAK will definately have to Think Twice .

Also , Indegenious efforts gaive pak Youths More employment , Pride and More over pak saves huge money on buying arms. Take my word sooner or later, you have to adopt this. Trust me , There is No Real Friend and No real Enemy in this World of Globalization.

Bangalore | Saturday, Jun 6 2009

The Defence Research and Development organisation (DRDO) would complete the indigenous AWACS programme in 2011, DRDO Chief Controller Mr Prahlada said today.

Talking to reporters here, he said Rs 2,000 crore programme, stalled earlier after the 1999 crash of a model, was in progress at the Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS) in the city.

He said the purchase of Falcon, developed jointly by Israel and Russia, was an old programme and realised now.

''To acquire AWACS on Il Aircraft was taken nearly ten years. Now the first falcon has come and two more will follow,'' he said.

''But what we are developing is the next generation AWACS which will be an improvement on Falcon. It will have better features and is fully indigenous, excepting some components sourced from outside.

Mounted on Embraer 145, it will be compact and easy to handle and maintain,'' he added.

DRDO was planning to build two aircraft and the first would roll out by 2011, he said.
