From my point of view the IPL is being used by the indian govt in playing politics and we should make a counterweight to it.
The basic idea is to set up a 20/20 league that involves Pakistan-Sri Lanka-Bangladesh at it core for the first few seasons and then to bring in teams from zimbabwe, kenya, honk kong, dubai, scotland and ireland.

I got few names just as examples

Pakistan-----Karachi sharks-Islamabad eagles-Lahore maharajas

Sri Lanka----Colombo Kings-Kandy Wolves

Bangladesh---Dhaka Dynamites-Chittagong Tigers

Zimbabwe-----Harare Chiefs

Kenya--------Nairobi Lions

China---------Hong Kong Dragons

Ireland------Dublin Celts

Scotland-----Edinburgh Highlanders

Dubai--------Dubai Sheikhs

We would have a domestic audience of close to a half a billion people and that would be by excluding mainland china,if we bought the full chinese market and the others watching nations we exceed the billion to a billion and a half people.
Theres more then enough companies to sponsor the whole thing.

There is a strong possibility that Dubai Sports City and PCB will launch their rival league.

Still hardly doubts it will be a counter weight to IPL..it has more money and resources..

Beating IPL is entirely doable.

Also perhaps even taking a chunk out of its resources would be significant as well.

I just said, its being organized in conjunction with Dubai Sports City. Obviously they'll be held in Dubai Sports City.

^^what about the players, the audience?will it be able to match 1 billion + population of cricket crazy people..who would be the sponsers?if you are thinkin of chinese cos then no offence you are dreaming..

I like your optimism Asim :) But think about it..which Board generate more money than any one in revenue from cricket..look at amount for which the last two teams being auctioned..Its hard friend..IPL is miles ahead..

Yea it might be possible to take a piece of revenue from IPL..But beating IPL not at all doable

PCB is not even interested in making a proper national team, and playing games with the selection every time, how can they manage some big events like cricket league or some thing???, first they are themselves responsible to damage sports in pakistan, they cant do any thing right in the first place.

A rival league is an insurance against the IPL's monopoly. But a league created to only rival the IPL will land it in trouble with the BCCI. That is not something any of these boards can risk at this stage - Most of Lanka's best cricketers play in the IPL, Bangladeshi players are hoping they get a look-in, Pakistanis are miffed, but will do anything to play in the IPL, and China - does not matter but they have received more grants from BCCI than the PCB.

Barring Pakistan, most other nations will be sending second rung players which is hardly the quality viewers expect. It will die its own natural death (like the ICL) if there are no stars from India, Australia and South Africa. The other issue is sponsorship. Dubai companies are getting tight-fisted, Pakistan companies possibly have money but not in the level of the IPL, and the other countries don't have that much money dedicated to cricket.

If you really want to rival the league, get with England (who can rope in NZ, Aus and SA) to create a league and stage it in the UK - it has more grounds, more Pakistanis and more sponsors.

not possible to beat IPL...reason, the money, the billion+ audience, sponsorors and security.
