Iran’s chicken output surges by 20 percent this summer amid efforts to reduce idle capacity.

Iran has reported a significant increase in chicken production this summer amid efforts to reduce the idle capacity existing in the poultry sector.

A senior official from Iran’s agriculture ministry said on Tuesday that chicken breeding had increased by 20 percent between March and July this year compared to the similar period in 2018.

Morteza Rezayi said production of layers and broilers reached around 478 million in the summer, saying breeding numbers could top 125 million in late September, a significant surge compared to figures recorded last year.

The official said, however, that increased production came as Iran had still 30 percent of idle capacity in the poultry industry.

He said breeders could increase their output if they were given guarantees about the future situation in the domestic market.

PressTV-Iran’s cotton output to surge by 15%: Official
Iran is expecting a 15-percent increase in cotton output as the country seeks to reach self-sufficiency.

Rezayi said increased production and overcapacity meant Iran had no need to import chickens from abroad.

A heavy consumer of chickens and eggs, Iran is one of the biggest producers of the poultry items in the world.

The industry is heavily regulated, however, as many farmers rely on cheap diesel to run hatcheries and the government has a close watch on the sector as it plays a huge role in food security in the country.

Well by basic economic laws, prices should fall if demand is constant. 20% surge is big.

Means Iranians don't have to come out on the streets every week and protest food shortages. :D

Everyone should be happy and fed. :partay:

More protein for Iranians, good for health.
Actually worst news for health!

Body of industry chickens is filled with drugs, mixed with constant stress of these poor birds (due to their environment), the product paves the way for known and unknown diseases.

Iranians should try to produce as much as possible according to standards for organic food. Health and "animal rights" should be the first concern (and rules and laws should be created accordingly) and ofcourse cost cutting measures are also important to make the food affordable for normal citizens. Here in Netherlands, with very expensive land and rent prices unlike Iran, there are places which sell whole organic chicken for 6,5 to 7 euros for each kilogram. For the average income here, it's a really good price and affordable.

Unfortunately it won't but it is a welcome news regardless. If Iran was an island where every import and export was strictly limited then as you said more supply meant lower price. But due to decrease in Iran currency value, Iran's products are now very affordable to the point that people actually smuggle them to neighboring countries and sell them there and that way earn more than selling it inside Iran. So most of these chickens will probably be exported.

However, in the long run, more exports will strengthen the national currency and eventually, prices will start to fall inside Iran as well.

I don't know if exporting Chickens is a good business model lol?

But if it works, it works. I'm all for bettering Iran's economy.

Iran’s agriculture minister says annual export of white meat from the country has reached 2.5 million tons, adding that poultry farming has grown in size and quality to match international standards.

Mahmoud Hojjati said on Saturday that Iran had made considerable progress in major aspects of poultry industry, including in production and supply of feed, vaccines and supplements, allowing farmers to begin exports to other countries.

“With regards to poultry industry, we have reached a point where we can have exports to other countries and meet highest productivity standards inside the country to supply the final product with the lowest price,” said Hojjati.

The minister, who was visiting an annual fair on livestock and poultry in the capital Tehran, seasonal drought had affected Iran’s cultivation of crops used as feed in the poultry industry, adding, however, that the government had sufficient supplies in the ports that could help the farmers cope with difficult situation.

Hojjati said Iranian poultry farmers had responded well to a government initiative to replace rapeseed meal with other feed items, adding that the transition had helped chicken growers to maintain output at normal levels despite difficulties existing in the supply market.
