Is Pakistan a Warrior State?

What else you can expect from a guy graduated from India and Indian mentality background.

Why is it the ever Haq musing has to feature India? can not even one of his articles be written with mentioning us? are we that relevant to Pakistan?
India is Pakistan's main rival, it is Pakistan's closest neighbor (geographically) that shares a similar (if not the same) history, and it is an economy that Pakistan wants to match one day, so why not? The comparisons make sense. It's the same thing when some Indian analysts mention China when talking about India.

It's not to be mad about.

India and Afg hellbenting on breaking pakistan ! really !! stop using ostritch as ur role model :) if kashmir was resolved u would have found some new issues to survive!!
It's nothing to get mad about, Afghanistan has never excepted the existence of Pakistan, and were infact the only ones to oppose it's birth at the UN. India would be stupid to not want to break Pakistan, which is a very sharp thorn at India's side. If you honestly think that India has no wish to get rid of Pakistan as a threat, via breaking it into multiple territories, then you're naive.

You are right, it wasn't Kashmir and it didn't start with Kashmir, almost two months before accession of Kashmir with India, they meddled in Junagadh, infact Pakistan have plans to grab as many Hindu majority princely states deep inside India even after their Hindu-Muslim can't leave together theory and tried to stop as many princely states to join India as they thought weaker India was in Pakistan's interest. Kashmir just symbolizes Pakistan's grand failure, if it wasn't Kashmir, they would have found some other reason to have a dispute with India.

Except in 1971, India almost did invade West Pakistan when it was at it's weakest, and they would have if the US didn't step in. That's one of the few rare praises I actually have for US militarism.

so USA saved you! in 1971 war the only aim of india was to liberate East Pak. West front war was more or less defensive in nature!

Actually, Indra Gandi's aim was that once East Pakistan was separated from the West, India would annex East Pakistan and move into a weakened West Pakistan. The over all goal was to split West Pakistan and stop it from ever becoming a threat to India's goal of regional hegemony.

Thankfully, both Nixon and the USSR stepped in to stop India. Nixon threatened to escalate the cold war with the USSR if it didn't stop India, so naturally the USSR obliged. Why would the US go so far? For one thing, Nixon hated India with a passion, and Pakistan was seen as an indispensable ally and a front line state against the "communist threat". Pakistan was friendliest towards the US during the Nixon administration, and many Pakistanis have fond views of those times, even if Pakistanis are bitter that the US didn't help sooner like it promised.

Precisely the reason why a ceasefire was called immediately after surrender documents were signed and the soldiers were escorted and returned back - also precisely the reason why the shimla agreement was signed.

Simla Agreement July 2, 1972

India was the first country to recognize Bangladesh as a separate and independent
state and established diplomatic relations with the country immediately after its
independence in December 1971.

Wonder who feeds these kind of propaganda?

warrior state or not , we know how to **** the enemy so bad that it is left buring many many years later :D

Since 9/11 a mini industry has developed in western media. Pick a country the west is currently engaged with in some bad way and write a crappy book highlighting all the negative sides of that country/its government. I mean this industry always existed; just that the focus is now more intense on central and west Asia. It's fairly lucrative actually. "Gaddafi's Harem", anyone? This guy is definitely no Anatol Lieven.

In fairness to TV Paul, his paper is exaggerated, but not completely untrue. But that's hardly the point. Fact is, both India and Pakistan are conspicuous failure. We know that. The OP shouldn't have wasted his time refuting this garbage.

The reason for this Anti-Pakistan Rhetoric of Indians is the barrage of negative images fed to these people by their Indian Media. I really find it hilarious when some Indian actually comes to Pakistan and is confounded by the ground reality in Pakistan. He finds that Pakistanis are not as backward as they were projected by their media and not as poverty stricken as their media has led them to believe either.

Also, they find that the Hospitality of Pakistani people is truly amazing because they have built in expectation of Hostility and instead they get love and affection from the Pakistani people for which they were ill prepared. So when they return home, they write to their newspapers how different the experience was for them.

yes very true

and u were personal assistant of Indira Gandhi right! India had no intention of annexing East Pakistan .. goal was simple liberate East Pakistan and establish a sovereign govt there. For West Pakistan the goal was to check and minimize any Pakistani counter attack. As per Nixon is considered .. no doubt the most crooked prez in history of USA ( watergate any one!) had an ally in Gen Yahiya Khan! Birds of a feather flock together ! yet Mr nixon was playing flute while its most beloved indispensable ally and a front line state against the "communist threat". was being broken into two halves.. so much so for being friends! True example of friend and Ally is USSR who stood for US !

no such propagandas in indian media to show Pakistan a backward or poor country exists.. the main subjects about Pak in Indian medias are its support to terrorism, india- pak relations, involvement in tetror attacks, bomb blasts in pak, need of peace etc.. articles showing pak is poor or backward is very very very rare..

Are you honestly making such a stupid argument? You're using strawman arguments, and misrepresentation of history to build up your argument.

The US did send a warship to aid Pakistan, but the USSR intercepted them, which is why US help arrived too late (US didn't want to start a war with the USSR). Nixon may have been a bad president, but that has nothing to do with what I'm saying, so it shouldn't even be brought up.

And yes, Indira Gandhi did plan on invading West Pakistan...

Well I being a Pakistani admit here that ideologically Pakistan is indeed a failed state and the reasons are too many.

First of all it was the poet of the east Hazrat Allamah Iqbal rahmatullah alaih that first saw the dream of Pakistan. He saw a dream of having an Islamic state in the sub-continent where the Muslims will practically implement the noble Shariah of Islam ie the Quran and Sunnah and which will serve as a role model and a beacon of light not just for the rest of the Muslim world but for the whole world community at large and for this purpose he appointed a man named Muhammad Ali Jinnah to fight this case of his. Muhammad Ali Jinnah fought well and succeeded in taking an independent piece of land for the implementation of this dream of his ideological mentor but unfortunately fate was not on his side and he died within a year of the founding of this proposed state and thus started the collapse of the Pakistani state on the ideological front.

Pakistan was not founded for any other purpose except for the fulfillment of this dream of Allamah Iqbal and unfortunately Pakistan has failed in the most miserable way in the fulfillment of the very purpose of its creation. Theoretically speaking today Pakistan simply does not exist ideologically. Yes its just a piece of land or nothing more than a state like hundreds of others in the region and the wider world. Today it has lost the very meaning and purpose of its existence and the most evident proof of this harsh reality is anarchy, violence and chaos in most of the large chunks of its territory. Balochistan is burning in the ashes of an ever strengthening separatist movement where now even educated and middle class Baloch are now talking about separation. Separatist voices are again being heard from Sindh for which nationalist and separatist movements are now holding large processions including women, children and elderly demanding independence and even not refraining from calling out to UNO and the West to intervene. Then there's KPK and FATA which's burning, smoldering and exploding since 11 yrs. The Pakistani state's writ has simply vanished from large chunks of Pakistani territory. The very 'law makers' and 'legislators' of the 'Islamic' Republic of Pakistan are openly ridiculing Islamic teachings and provisions and its just brushed aside by being declared as democratic difference of opinion. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioo'n.

I know these harsh realities would not be easily accepted by hard core Pakistani nationalists and establishment's touts and apologists and they'll once again start constructing webs of nonsense conspiracy theories and sprouting out and portray their favorite political parties and particularly military establishment as angels, saints and messiah's appointed by providence.
