A two-day symposium during which Islamic scholars from 80 countries will exchange views about ijma, an Islamic term meaning religious consensus, kicked off in İstanbul on Saturday.

The event, which is jointly organized by the magazines Yeni Ümit and Hira, is taking place at İstanbul's Haliç Congress Center on the Golden Horn.

The symposium is titled “Ijma as a Common Roadmap and Collective Awareness.”

Among the speakers of the event are leader of Ennahda in Tunisia Rashid al-Ghannushi, Professor Ahmed Abbâdi, Muhammed Saad Ebu Bekir, former Egyptian Mufti Professor Ali Gomaa, Professor İsam Beshiri, Professor Muhammad Imara and Islamic scholar Selmân Hussein en-Nedvî.

A total of 4,000 people are following the symposium. There are simultaneous translations in five languages -- Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, English and French -- during the event.

The editor-in-chief of Yeni Ümit magazine, Ergun Çapan, earlier said the symposium will be the sixth such event they have organized.

“Last year, we organized another symposium titled ‘Solutions to Social Problems from the Prophet's Path' in Gaziantep, which was attended by people from 60 countries. In a similar event in 2010, Islamic scholars talked about the ‘Prophet's Path',” he recalled.

Çapan noted that the theme of this year's symposium was proposed by well-known Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen.

Among the participants of the symposium there will also be opinion leaders from Turkey's East and Southeast.

The head of Turkey's Religious Affairs Directorate, Professor Mehmet Görmez, was among the figures who made opening speeches on the first day of the event on Saturday.

Yeni Ümit, one of the organizers of the event, is a monthly magazine on Islamic knowledge and literature. It reaches out to around 100,000 people every month. Renowned Islamic scholars Professor Hayrettin Karaman and Suat Yıldırım are among the members of the magazine's advisory board.

Hira, the other organizer, is a magazine published in Arabic by Kaynak Publishing. It reaches out to people in many Islamic countries. Among the contributors to the magazine are many writers, thinkers and intellectuals from the Arab world. It is published as a quarterly.

Masha-Allah, good to see this happening under wise Turkish leadership. I would like Turkish PDF members opinion about a similar idea I have presented here:

http://www.defence.pk/forums/world-...slamic-extremism-global-fiqh-council-gfc.html

where about 320 members of all Muslim communities (1 rep from every 5 million Muslims) are sponsored in a University research center to centrally do research and unify Islamic jurisprudence so random deviants cannot use Islam for terrorism or their personal nefarious projects.

Called me an "Optimist" about Mullah-iat and Ayatullah-$hite. Nothing will change.

This "Ijma" thing is just an excuse for sipping free tea, and then taking big "dumps" in Turkey.

Unfortunately religion is a part of politics and politics are part of defence

Its not. And if the mods decide to allow this sh.it we might as well start posting cat pictures because animal rights are politics and politics are a part of defence.

Religion can be part of politics and those politics can translate into military conflict like we have witnessed and are witnessing.

Event's like this bring awareness about Islam. The more people know about Islam, the less they will fear Muslims, and the less Muslim people will be tricked and manipulated into joining some terrorist organization. That is how Al-Qaeda and the likes recruit, by telling half-truth's and even lie's about Islam. If a Muslim person knows enough about Islam, then the chance is small that such a person will be manipulated into supporting/joining a terrorist organization.

I have no problem with discussing religion here, but if "pathetic" is being considered as an 'extreme abusive content' as this drama queen's title about me suggesting:

WebMaster I have to report...

and enough to ban a member, then there is a problem.

Fortunetely for me, i cannot see the rest of the post since it was created in here: http://www.defence.pk/forums/general-headquarters/ But i assume it was full of BS just like his 'observations' about Turkey.

What i'm saying is, if you cannot stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, and simply ban discussions about religion, but if not, if a braindead member comes here and say "Turkey is an Islamic state" and despite proven wrong, keeps insisting about it, that kind of BS will not be tolarated by the Turkish members here.
