Israel approves F-35 fighters deal

Israel's Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Sunday approved purchase of U. S. fifth-generation F-35 fighters, the ministry's press service said.

The minister's approval came after a series of discussions; it was finally decided to purchase 20 aircraft for $96 million each. The $2.7 billion deal will be paid using U. S. military assistance.

The purchase will include spare parts, maintenance, and simulators. Israel plans to receive the warplanes between 2015 and 2017.

"F-35 is a fighter of the future which will allow us to maintain our supremacy in air and our technological superiority in the region," Barak said.

A final approval by Israel's Cabinet is expected at the end of September. Canada, Turkey, Britain, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Australia and the Netherlands helped to develop the plane. They have already signed the needed purchase agreements.

Tel Aviv earlier said that the purchase of F-35 fighters would effectively eliminate the threat from Russian-made S-300 air defense systems because a series of computer simulations had clearly demonstrated that new U.S. stealth fighters outperform the Russian missiles.

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), manufactured by Lockheed Martin, is a single-seat, single-engine stealth multirole fighter that can perform close air support, tactical bombing, and air defense missions.

This part is most amazing!!!! Effectively, US is providing these machines for free!

What about the S-400?

F-35 is few years away from active duty. Russia might start exporting S-400 by then.

Well, they're a lethal fighting force. This machine is only going to make them further invincible. Smart prioritization of national defense and ensure that their most reliable line of defense remains supreme in the region.

Good going

Due to the Israeli-Egyptian Peace Treaty, the U.S. Provides Israel with 2 Billion dollars worth of military aid each year. Under this treaty, Egypt is also provided 1 billion dollars worth of military aid.

So yes, when Israel says it's purchasing military equipment from the U.S., it is the U.S. paying for it, and the same goes for Egypt...but i guess it's a small price to pay to bring some stability to that area.

To be precise israel gets 2.70 billion dollars this year 2010.
2009 $2.55 billion
2010 $2.70 billion
2011 $2.85 billion
2012 $3.00 billion
2013-2018 $3.15 billion per year

Yes apparently it seems as US is giving this Bird to Israel Free. But one important thing is that US millitary aid can only be spent upon US equipment. from consultant to contractractor, all should be US firms. What does US achieves through this is an indirect welfare and long term protection of its defence industry. As after purchase, JSFs will have to fly to US for its maintainence and overhaull. ( i dont know what happened to Israel's purposal of maintaining their JSFs in Israel rather than flying them to LMCO)

One often meets its destiny on the road to prevent it ..

Since how many years the Jerusalem has been under Jewish rule..
