The defense chief said his conversations with the Japanese and Chinese would echo what US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton told them earlier this month — that they must find a process for settling the disputes. The US, he said, does not take a position with regard to the disputed lands.

He said he will strongly urge the Chinese to participate in the process so they can take part in a forum to resolve the issues.

well chest-beating can only take you so far; i'm sure with time chinese leaders will come to realize peaceful existence and diplomatic compromises is the only way forward.

You don't understand, the CCP leaders are trying to divert the angers and frustration of China's poor by staging an external crisis like this one.

Japan's new envoy to China dead: officials

TOKYO: The newly appointed Japanese envoy to China died in a Tokyo hospital on Sunday, officials said, ruling out any link to growing anti-Japan protests in Chinese cities over an escalating territorial row.

Shinichi Nishimiya, who was officially appointed on Tuesday, was taken to hospital after falling ill on a street near his home in the capital's fashionable Shibuya district on Thursday, according to reports.

"Ambassador Shinichi Nishimiya died in a hospital", the foreign ministry said in a statement. The death had "nothing to do with any accident or anti-Japanese demonstrations" in China, a foreign ministry official told AFP.

Nishimiya, a career diplomat, was to replace Uichiro Niwa at a time Japan and China are at loggerheads over a disputed island chain in the East China Sea.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside Japan's embassy in Beijing on Sunday, throwing water bottles and chanting anti-Japanese slogans, a day after angry demonstrators tried to storm the building.

Niwa raised hackles at home when he said a plan by Tokyo's nationalist governor to buy the islands could cause a crisis between China and Japan, jeopardising economic ties.

Japan insists there is no territorial dispute over islands it administers and calls Senkaku, but which China claims under the name Diaoyu.

Nishimiya had planned to leave for Beijing in October. The government is now considering a replacement from among retired foreign ministry officials, local reports said.

Few months ago the Filipino Ambassador collapsed in Beijing and now this. Perhaps this is a sign of telling these countries not to mess with the Middle Kingdom.

Yeah, Korea is the universally strong. Korea is the master of the universe. BUt the truth is that Korea is a chess of big powers around it.

Hey, there is nothing to do with S korea here. It is between China, Japan and USA! Why you have to fall into the false flagger's trap!?

Many Chinese will lose jobs. Jobs will be shifted to South East Asia. People who will earn money at least some, and they can become a market for Japan to invest in. Chinese with no jobs means no money to buy Japanese branded products.

The Japanese rightwingers were making their regular scheduled protest against the Korean wave.

it is hard to say. when they lose their market. then their competitor will dominate the market. as long as chinese boycott japanese goods, japanese companies' competitors will grow

A trade war is the least important part of this whole situation. Some believe boycotting Japanese goods and relocating factories won't have great impacts on the Japanese economy. I really have doubt on this kind of perception because they are assuming China is depending more on these Japanese companies rather than Japan needs China as a trading partner. By breaking the status quo the Japanese right wing government is just stirring up angry emotions of the Chinese from around the world. This whole mess can result in military confrontation and when that happens we ain't gonna be worrying about trading. Oldman first of all these Chinese factory workers don't earn enough to buy Apple or other expensive Japanese products with that kind of salary. Secondly do you think that rich mainlanders and Chinese from around the world will continue to buy these products?

I think it is clear that this territory belongs to Japan if they buy it when china wants it they should buy it.But i think China thinks that they can get away with it when they say this island belonged to them 1000 years ago.
