Joe Biden as U.S. president would help India get seat on UNSC, says former American diplomat Richard

Very interesting India actually voted for the PRC's ascension in 1971 ... I am very surprised (guess everyone hates Taiwan lol).

Hmmm ... perhaps India should break the pact then? But honestly I don't think China would ever allow India on the UNSC because India would very likely veto any UN action or statements regarding Kashmir. China allowing India's ascension into the UNSC would be a huge slap in the face to their number one ally and leave them super vulnerable diplomatically. China might have improved relations with India, but this would torpedo its relations with Pakistan. But yeah, I def see why China would refuse Japan's entry.

India has never broken its word. Ever. That will never happen.

UNSC will continue to become irrelevant as India will grow to be the Third largest economy in the world with the Third most powerful armed forces.

UNSC was important in the past when India was poor and weak. Today it does not really matter if India gets that seat. India does not need that seat to deal with the world.

But the world needs India to sit on that seat for UNSC to become relevant again. And that role is only going to get stronger with time.

Ya India doesn't have any reason for deserving a seat...So what if

* India represents 1/6th of global population..
* 5th largest economy which most likely be 3rd largest by 2030...
* 2nd largest Army...
* 3rd or maybe 4th largest navy..
* Not to forget largest diaspora...

*Has major territorial disputes with its neighbours
*Has the highest number of poverty in the world
*Is the largest arms importer in the world
*Can barely project power outside its region
*Is one of the worlds largest source of immigrants fleeing the country

If population is the reason: what about Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil or Bangladesh?

If its economy: why not Germany or Japan?

If its Army: what about North Korea?

If its dispora: what about Mexico, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines etc?

And if its a combination of the above, then the likes of UK and France can no longer justify their own seats.

Lets be realistic - a UNSC seat is just a carrot being dangled in front of India. You wont get it, and if you do, it won't come with veto powers. The existing members would not want to dilute their own veto powers (regardless of what they promise you knowing China would veto), and China would not permit it.

BS news!

US support for India's UNSC seat is like US support for Pakistan on Kashmir: a whole lot of noise but, in the end, little or no action.

The UNSC needs to be reformed, no doubt, but adding more permanent members with automatic veto power, whether it is India or not, is a bad idea. There can be permanent members in a reformed UNSC, depending on an agreed-upon criterion, but no automatic veto power. All resolutions should be passed with a minimum of three-quarters majority.

Let me be realistic India will be at that table by 2050 till then the only thing that we should focus on is on our Economy,welfare of our people, Education, healthcare and foreign relation....

Not bothered
We continue to build up our economy get past Germany and Japan to be the 3rd largest

Increase out tech and manufacturing base

Spend huge on military with 50% indengious at least growing to 70% home grown . Currently this is 75% imported. We need to follow our navy which builds everything at home now from nuke subs destroyers to carriers and helicopters too dhruv

India is more like a big Iraq than a smaller China.

Just like Iraq most of its military is imported from France and Russia. In 1991 before the US destroyed it, the Iraqi armed forces were the 4th largest in the world.

Just like Iraq it is mostly a resource economy.

Just like Iraq it is very aggressive towards its neighbors.

Fair warning to India: US also sweet talked Iraq, with Donald Rumsfeld even traveling to Baghdad to talk with Saddam Hussein, to get him to fight Iran. When Saddam lost his use, he was disposed of. India should think very carefully about exactly what they're getting.
