Karun Chandhok secures F1 drive

India's [ Images ] Karun Chandhok will race for Hispania Racing Team (HRT) in Formula One this season, the new Spanish-based team said on Thursday.

Chandhok will partner Brazilian rookie Bruno Senna at the team, who have changed their name from Campos Meta, when the season starts in Bahrain next week.

Bruno is the nephew of three-time F1 driver's champion Ayrton Senna.

Chandhok thereby becomes the second Indian to race in Formula One after Narain Karthikeyan, who raced for Jordan in the 2005 season before being Williams' test driver in the following two seasons.

He won two races in the GP 2 series in the last three years.

Chandok is the second Indian to drive for F1 team. He is born on January 19, 1984 in Chennai.

Good news for Indian though i hardly think he will make any Impact in formula one . Even though he on2 races, he lags behind when compared to others who have graduated from GP2

for example

Timo Glock position for 2007 was number 1
Lucas di grassis position for 2007,08,09 were 2,3 and 3rd position
Nakajima was 6th in 2007
petrov was 13, 7 and 2

bruno senna was 8 and 2 in 2007 and 2008

while karun was 15,10 and 18 for the years 2007,08 and 09

Anyway best of luck for him.. coz F1 is different and anything can happen if he has a better car.

Bruno Senna is Karun's team partner (another driver).

Lets hope he (Karun) lasts long till 2011 India Grand Prix which will happen in NOIDA.

For that he has to work hard otherwise will end up like narain.. Narian while in his prime was much better than karun..

Any way its great to see India coming up with own team and now a driver...
