Lok Sabha approves FDI in retail, rejects opposition motion

All said and done, i dont care who did it, if it was bjp doing it that would be good too. We need this and GST asap. A few more reforms and there is no reason to not hit double digit growth.

Kudos for MMS for this brave move. And yes BJP has shown its real face while opposing the FDI

43 members were such such staunch opposer that they didn't even participated in the voting, thereby helping the govt win.
CBI, or some other incentive?!

Utterly disappointed with BJP on this issue. Sharad Yadav's hyper socialism seems to have infected them also. Having second thoughts now about their capability to lead India in this decade.

I think that Hooda chap was bang on target when he said that NDA / BJP is neither against FDI nor against Organized retail.. Its only against Congress and is opposing just for the heck of it...

Cheap show from the BJP. The real jackass part of this is, states are allowed to "opt" out of this.

Commie strongholds like kerala , WB will obviously force consensus to "opt out".

nope i was not joking ,the reality Indian retailers will have to face .... like the farmer suicide we will see retailer suicides in future

nop after the development on street level i can only see some retarted communist, marxist suiciding here and there.

don't get the CBI thing, how did they helped the govt getting votes in house?

If SP and BSP had voted, the opposition motion would have passed, given they are against FDI. By not participating, they helped the govt. They are not stupid enough to do it without reason. And congress has a big leverage against them of pending cases, that is, the pressure of CBI.

Members of SP and BSP, with respective strength of 22 and 21, did not participate in the voting as they walked out alleging that interests of farmers and small retailers had been ignored.

IMHO, except for communist, no other party is opposing the FDI because of ideology, just immediate political gains. Had NDA been in power, it would have been UPA opposing similar move by them.

Not sure about CBI thing. Its all about money and politics.
Mulayam had acted well. He said after he walked out of parliament " We are staging a walkout cos, Govt had insulted farmers".
Is this a logic line?
SP and BSP are already sold out. But doesnt matter as some good have happened for the country.
Already IKPF furniture retail approval request of 10000 crores have been approved. Many are coming. :D

Strange then, that China opened up full Retail FDI decades ago.

And interestingly enough, today China's retail market is entirely dominated by our own domestic companies.

From your own media:

The Hindu : Business / Economy : Chinese retailers give global giants run for money

Many of these changes, according to Chinese analysts, were made possible by the entry of foreign retail giants such as Walmart and Carrefour, who changed the way Chinese companies managed their businesses, from farm procurement to logistics. Yet, 20 years on, it is Chinese local retailers — and not their foreign competitors — who dominate the retail market, with initial fears of a foreign invasion ultimately appearing unfounded as local companies learned quickly to out-compete their foreign rivals.

The country's biggest retail firms today are all Chinese companies — the Shanghai Bailian group, Suning, Gome and Dashang — all have bigger sales than Walmart in China, according to several research studies.
