For the longest time, I bought into the idea that true representation of masses can come only from people who are in lower Middle class and middle class.

From recent experience though, it looks like that lower Middle Class politicians can only thrive in a stable and non-criminal society.

If on the other hand, if the society is not mature and stable, then such middle class or lower middle class politicians cannot stand on their own two feet. They do not have resources nor power that allows them to challenge their leadership.

In fact they become poor lambs who are pushed around with a stick and they cannot leave and they cannot stand.

The only way out for them is either death, exile, or a robot like blind followers.

And thus they become utter failures.

Any thoughts or ideas?

The fact about Pakistan politics is, none of the educated people can enter politics.

That is precisely why local bodies elections being held regularly are important. This creates the grass roots foundations upon which the rest of democracy can be built.

That grass can easily be trampled by mafioso aka Altaf.

Remember that poor mayor of Karachi who had to run away and hide to save his forking life.

A lot of Western concepts fail even within West when you study Sicily type areas.

That was only because MQM was created by certain angels at a particular time in Pakistan's history.

Proper grass roots democracy arises from the people themselves, not by angels.

Live example in our constituency. One family is wining evertime. His father never lost any election and now his son. Now grand son will inherit political legacy of 60 years and will copy his papa and grand papa. They don't deliver and not interested about issues of the constituency. No one could challenge them 15 years bk. Then comes a retired major from infantry. He is fighting against them since 20 years. He is getting reasonable support from the public as well. Last time it appeared to be tough competition but this honest man lost as usual. He don't have enough resources nor he can inherit his political legacy to his son because his son is serving in military too.

That criteria is applicable to most if not ALL. :-)

political dynasties is part of the system bhai jaan, however frustrating.

Mate we referring to mqm members as middle class politicians ?

we lack sensible political leaders and almost all of them working for their own interest rather than for nation thats why we lack dams to store water we have many other problems but these politicians just filling their swiss accounts and at time of war we will left with our nation our army they will flee to other countries holding dual nationalities they destroyed the name of politicians our great Quaid was a great politician but afterward no one followed his theory thats why we are in crisis

Coming to power requires finance and staying in power requires the dirty knowledge of politics. Someone from the middle-class lacks both.

Our society itself has created a system of jis ki laathi us ki bhens. The leaders we get are simply our own reflection.

But Razor bhai,

Politicians even in Western countries are mostly upper class.

Even if they were from middle class somewhere in their earlier life, they no longer are during their active political life.

What say you

I totally agree to this.

Instances of a poor/middle-class politician who left office with the same wealth he had before, are pretty rare and exceptional cases.
At one point or another, behti ganga main hath dho hi leta hai.

instead of so negative that you are, you better think of how things can work out. for instance LG is essential part to create leaderships, student unions in universities is another platform where leaders emerge, so we can make environment peaceful for them to thrive, that is the job of establishments.
