Made in India Vehicles

yea but 99/100 pictures are ugly.
and 98/100 I don't even know the specs of it.
I would buy an amg c63. the rest I don't care.
But 100% INDIGENOUS INDIAN cars are very ugly. with weak engine and useless interior.

---------- Post added at 03:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:29 PM ----------

But I think the main reason is to first of all make a bottom line: we need to sell atleast 1 car to every citizen before going deeper in engine strength or interior or the look..

Haha amg c63 nice choice. I would love to get an AMG but its too damn expensive in Australia, probably close to 1.5 the price of whatever it is in Europe, pisses me off. I shall be getting a Lexus IS F soon.

As far as Indian cars are concerned agreed they aren't the best lookers, but they are getting better, so the future is bright. Couldn't agree more about setting up the base market first. Once you have the base , you you ll start getting the car enthusiasts soon after, then Indian car companies can start looking into luxury and performance segment.

lexus was my favorite brand a couple years ago.
but then I found my new love in the AMG's series and started hating their concurrents Audi and BMW:p
And in the netherlands you pay 150k for all the extras, carbon bla bla bla.. but then you pay 1trillion euros taxes.
hate this country.

and i hope the indian industry will open brands to concentrate on 1 part or make it all in ones.. because these are terrible.
but these are fun to drive..
i mean driving a 10years old sahin or toros in turkey is very funnny...
the steer is shaking like crazy and the wheels are about to blow up hehe:yahoo:

A surprisingly well written review of the Thar by Gul. I think I should stop being surprised, some of our actress know more than just looking good

At first sight it looks very butch. And the impression doesn’t quite change after driving it for 3days. The Thar is a good looking rugged automobile( if you’re into retro looks).

I was taken aback by how peppy it is. With a 2.5L crde engine( a variant of the Scorpio’s) I was sure it wouldnt be sluggish- but it’s pick up took me by surprise. It is lighter than it’s big cousin the Scorpio, and feels so. It also doesn’t have the latter’s tendency of ‘leaning’ on the corners.

I liked the way the Thar dominates the road. A lot many cars, autos didn’t ‘cut-in’ ahead of me seeing it. Many bigger cars driving on the wrong side of the road from the opposite direction obediently went to their lane. Not bad. The standard issue (Bridgestone 235/70/r 16 HT) radials give it a surprisingly good ride and the suspension too is better than what I expected from an ‘off-roader’.

Despite having a hydraulic power steering the , I feel the Thar is let down by it’s turning radius. I would expect it to turn in 4.25 meters owing to it’s size. I think the problem is that the Thar is a lot bigger than it feels and thus one has such ‘mini’ jeep type expectations.Another big let down is the quality of the plastics, door panels AND the MM 540 style archaic gear shift( even though it has the Scorpio gearbox) Why?? Like the 540, finding neutral ,first gear and reverse is an effort:(

I think Mahindra have delivered a surprise with the Thar(even though it’s a tad pricey**). Will it attract the urban buyer? Not sure. Maybe the weekend off roader who will buy it to indulge his passion. It is likely to be a second vehicle for those. I don’t see it being the primary car for most. This IS packaged as 80% off-road and 20% road. And it definitely denies you all the comforts one would like in the city but can do without while off-roading.

Whatever your reason for buying the Thar- one thing is certain- you will be the cynosure of all eyes when on the road.

** the crde version is Rs 6 lakhs ex showroom.

Don't underestimate Gul Panag. She is really savvy about "wheels". She has done some episodes of the "Car & Bike show" and was also a judge for the recent "C & B awards", check out NDTV.com

you know this ENTRE THREAD is bullshit too..
posting pictures of cars and saying 100% INDIGENOUS INDIAN is just bullshit..
what can we say?
a car cool.. oh another picture with a car cool...?
POST THE SPECIFICATION AND THE PRICE.
HOW CAN WE JUDGE THE CARS BY ONLY LOOKING OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF IT.
The answer to the last sentence is: ugly would enver buy one of these.

:hitwall::hitwall:

We in this thread know S. Asian cars are fugly, the excitement is all about not being fugly etc., but just being.

We are all still excited that at least there is such a thing as a 'vehicle industry'. Now that said industry is booming and evolving, it is genuinely pleasing to see better looking, better powered and better priced vehicles coming out, even is 100 % 'indigenous' content is debatable.

Globalization Vs. Indiginisation debate is long over in S. Asia. The days of Socialist, import replacement economic model are a relic of the past.
Oh! What's 100% indigenous in this Global world of today, even if you apply it to ppl., the universal world is multi-culturism, no?

Re: troll ... sorry; couldn't help my re-buttal.

:undecided:

It is a very old model which was used by the Police department. It is the quintessential Police vehicle in Indian movies. I think the newer models are little better looking.
