STF kills five guerrilla in Chhattisgarh
A Special Task Force jawan and at least five guerrilla were killed in an exchange of fire with Maoists in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday.
Police suspect that at least five cadres were also killed in the encounter that took place near Gandharpada village early Thursday morning, Sukma district superintendent of police Abhishek Shandilya told media.
He said trooper Aadesh Pal was hit in the chest when Naxals opened fire on the STF team after they were cornered in Gandharpada forest area.
The firing continued for four hours after which the Maoists fled the spot, he said.
The SP further said that police found heavy blood stains at five places in vicinity of the encounter site which made them believe that at least five Naxlas might have been killed in the exchange of fire. Police, however, have not recovered any body of ultras from the spot.
The SP said additional police force has been sent to the area and combing operation is on to trace the Naxals.
"The body of the STF jawan is being taken to Sukma," he added.
Meanwhile, after almost two years of painstaking efforts, the CRPF has successful used unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to pick up ground conversation and movement of Maoist cadres in terrains of Chhattisgarh.
A special squad of the anti-Naxal force recently undertook an operation in the jungles of Narayanpur district during which a UAV was not only able to pick up "real-time imagery" of movement of Naxal cadres but also relayed the conversation among them.
"The conversation picked up by the radars of the UAV was immediately routed to a squad of CoBRA commandos. The UAV experiment has finally worked with all the devices of the machine functioning optimally to give the forces an edge in anti-Naxal operations," a senior CRPF officer said.
