Mumbai violence: Man who desecrated Amar Jawan memorial held

One of the two rioters, who had vandalised the iconic Amar Jawan memorial during the August 11 violence here, was today arrested, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 54, police said today.

"Abdul Quadir Mohammed Younus Ansari (19), an unemployed youth, was picked up from Sitamarhi in Bihar yesterday. Ansari, who had damaged the Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial, was preparing to flee to Nepal by crossing the border when he was apprehended," said Joint Police Commissioner (crime) Himanshu Roy.

Another accused Nazir Noor Mohammed (35), who had sustained bullet injury while clashing with policemen on the day of the violence, was nabbed after being discharged from the government-run J J hospital, police said.

Images of the two alleged rioters, including Ansari, were published in MiD DAY while they were desecrating the memorial. In the images, a furious Ansari was seen smashing the memorial with a bamboo.

"Ansari was brought here today and placed under arrest, following which he was produced before a local court which remanded him in police custody till September 4," Roy added.

Ansari, who hails from Bihar, had fled to this state in a train after his photograph was published in the newsAnsari's father is a religious leader, police said adding that he had attended a meeting in Jogeshwari area where he stayed before reaching to Azad Maidan.

"The meeting appeared to have been provoking," an officer said adding that the hunt for another accused who damaged the memorial was on.

So far, police have arrested 54 alleged rioters for the Azad Maidan mayhem, in which two persons were killed and over 50 were injured, including 44 policemen, when a rally called to protest the alleged atrocities on Muslims in Assam and Myanmar turned violent.

However, a metropolitan court yesterday discharged three of the accused arrested in connection with the violence after the crime branch moved an application saying that the investigation showed they were not the part of the violent mob.

On August 11, the protesters went on a rampage, attacking police, including women constables, torching media and police vans, smashing cameras of photo journalists and damaging buses.paper, to evade arrest, police said.

Excellent. Now I say hand them over to the Indian Muslim community for them to judge. Any judgement from their side would be acceptable to me.

India needs to stop persecuting its Muslims.

If only the same zeal was put into place trying to find those who slaughtered the Muslims in Assam.

The Hindu : News / National : BPF MLA Pradeep Brahma arrested for Assam violence

An MLA of Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), which is an ally of the ruling Congress in Assam, was arrested in the wee hours on Thursday for his alleged involvement in the recent violence in the state.

Pradeep Brahma, alias Gara, who represents Kokrajhar (West) constituency, was arrested from his house at Dotoma near Kokrajhar town at about 1 a.m. as seven cases had already been registered against him in several police stations.

BPF is the ruling party of the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) whose chief is Hagrama Mohilary.

Following the arrest and Wednesday’s violence in neighbouring Dhubri district in which two persons were killed, indefinite curfew was clamped in Kokrajhar district.

Army staged flag march even as Brahma’s supporters started picketing on the railway track and national highway 31.

More than 80 persons have lost their lives and four lakh were rendered homeless in the violence in lower Assam districts of Korajhar, Dhubri and Chirang.

Because only one man was responsible for the massacre of Muslims. He must have many hands.

We are not living in any failed nation we have functioning unbiased courts and India is ruled by rule of the law.

Not any kangaroo court/military dictator/quansi democracy/majlis e shoura etc. We don't want taliban or mob justice

Court should take very action against him.

This is the guy who has been arrested. One more pos remaining at large, soon to be caught hopefully.

+ people, disregard the singala numbnut.

That concrete step with a gun in it is more important than the lives of Muslims in Assam?

@ Avid ji, ignore the singala. He is just for stirring ****. Not worth your time.

Don't be an internet hindu now Bhairava. It's ugly. Try and behave like a civilized Hindu.

Those were my personal sentiments anyway. I'm sure the Indian muslim community would like to judge him for the heinous crime he has committed and that would be the most fitting.

Rubbish. They were Indian Muslims. And trying to pass the buck and say they weren't Indian does not justify their slaughter.

So much uproar over a silly little structure.

Such little uproar over the slaughter of Muslims.

- India don't prosecute any one that too on the religious basis.

- Riot can happen anywhere they even happen in developed countries in london and paris too.

- Slaughtering is the justified word for the massacre of Christians and Hindus which was done by the Sri Lankan forces in Sri Lanka.

- The Assam riot started because 4 Hindus were killed by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. So it was Hindus who get killed first that started the riots.

In Assam, Bodos (who are tribals) and Muslims (I-Is from BD) were kiiling each other. So keep your clap-trap to yourself; not to forget the shenanigans of the Janatha Vimukti Peramuna who made a sport of hounding SL Tamils while fighting two insurgencies against the SL Govt itself. In 1971 alone, the JVP notched up 15,000 casualties; then in another phase of violence in 1983, the JVP orchaestrated the "Black July" ethnic riots. Not to forget that those hoodlums had begun to gain the tacit support of the SL Govt. and the Buddhist Clergy by that time.

Short memory, eh!
