I started this thread to let everyone know about this letter from sardar patel to nehru

Patel ji knew it was coming , but Nehru took the threat lightly > our defence at that time was so worse there were no communication facilities in north east part as you read in letter...

But all is HISTORY now..we are stronger than what we were in 1962.. we should take this as a Learning ->develop ouself , and make our coutry stronger both on economic and military front , and never take this threat lightly and be ready to face challenge....JAI hind

Let's make this clear China didn't attack India because India was weak and China is opportunistic. The conflict came about because Nehru thought he didn't need to negotiate with China and could simply take the land up to and beyond the Mahone line without China resorting to war. (since the invasion of Goa was so easy, what could go wrong here right?)

This was why he had a half-a55 war plan and this was why he was surprised when China attacked. It was a stupid political miscalculation. The Indian army wasn't weak or ill-equipment, it was just asked to do more than what it was capable of. Also here an interesting fact the Indian Army had light tank battalions in both the east and the west (look up the order of battle from western sources). How does that square with the noble jawan fighting with a bullet and a rifle myth?
