What's new

Najam Sethi appointed interim PCB chairman

They had Majid Khan and Chisti Mujahid as option for the post, but have appointed this guy....

Oh well, I guess this is the reward for helping PML-N with their election campaign.

reward for massive raging in Punjab

Bhai ansar abbasi se poocho woh batein ge aap ko najam sethi ki harkatein....es ne terrorists ko chora.....banday hire karwaye, rigging ki....AA wanted to speak about it in Capital talk but hamid mir jaffer stopped him

Mir Hazar Khan Khoso!!!

This whole thing reeks of malpractice...

A CT CM is supposed to be completely neutral...if you give him an important post after winning the elections, it is naturally going to look like a reward for something.
@hasnain0099, any comments on this?

A pathetic move...first Zahid Khan made law minister, now this.
NS has also appointed caretaker energy minister Dr. Musadik Malik as his special adviser on energy. Does this mean he was also "rewarded" too? Well Just check how much bureaucracy was shuffled in all three provinces and then just compare them with Punjab. Not a single important bureaucrat was able to retain his former post. So yes you may doubt his appointment but unless there is something concrete (Which PTI has been lacking on both Rigging in Punjab as well as against such appointments) please do come forth with it.
P:S. His name is Zahid Hamid, not Zahid Khan (An ANP Senator).

THe education department officials weren't changed at all...and as you know, the polling officers were teachers. I ain't saying that there was rigging on a big scale and N won only because of rigging...but this whole thing seems morally and ethically wrong, don't you think? But since when were morals and ethics taken seriously in Pakistan, right?

Appointing a capable technocrat as adviser is one thing, appointing a journalist as CT CM and then as Chairman PCB is another.

Najam Sethi said before the elections that after his stint as CT CM, he would come back to journalism...how times change!

And thanks for the correction, Zahid Hamid. My point still stands though.

Sethi has been running election campaign of MNS since last 5 years either by praising him or bashing Army.

and he got the reward for that as CM of Punjab. He continues to do so as of his today's column. No wonder why MNS wont want a bone for a senior, known, somewhat popular journalists who continually praises ...

The government of Nawaz Sharif has appointed Mr Najam Sethi as the acting chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board after Islamabad High Court dismissed the incumbent chief, Mr Zaka Ashraf, a Zardari crony, and asked the government to appoint an interim chief. Mr Sethi was caretaker chief minister of Punjab, the largest province of Pakistan and major support base of prime minister Nawaz Sharif, in March to May this year and his major responsibility was to hold elections in the province and facilitate smooth transition of power. Mr Sethi, a liberal journalist and one-time foe of Nawaz Sharif was appointed caretaker CM with the support of Sharif party.
Notwithstanding the fact the Pakistan’s cricket is in serious disarray and the incumbent chairman Ashraf had to be shown the door, the appointment of Sethi has raised serious questions. Social media is abuzz with very strong reaction to his appointment and questioning the merit of the decision. Some say that his appointment proves the allegations of Imran Khan’s party, PTI, that elections in Punjab were massively rigged.
A noted media anchor and journalist, Talaat Hussain wrote on his Facebook page: When caretakers get rewarded, questions need to be asked. That's why Mr Sharif must explain the merit of the decision. I still maintain that polls were by and large fair, but this moves raises serious issues about Sethi's role. As a matter of rule and good conviction caretakers never stay on in any official job. That's the point. The other issue is about competence. Sethi getting a job at Ittefaq mills (Sharif’s business empire) as director, yes, but as in charge of cricket? That’s blue murder.

Caretaker chief minister becomes caretaker chief of Pakistan cricket
