The Khulna Shipyard will hand over a newly built Landing Craft Vessel Personnel (LVCP) to the Bangladesh Army on November 13.

Army chief General Ikbal Karim Bhuiyan will formally receive the vessel, constructed first ever for the army, from the shipyard authorities.

The 19.75-metre long and seven-metre wide LVCP will be able to carry solders and weaponry of the army during both peace and war on the waterways speedily.

Meanwhile, the warship has been launched in the Rupsha River, sources said.

The Khulna Shipyard signed the construction contract with the Bangladesh Army on June, 2009.

Former army chief Muhammad Abdul Mubin inaugurated the construction work at the shipyard on June 29.

The warship built at a cost of around Tk 16 crore will travel 12 to 20 nautical miles per hour, said General Manager (finance) Captain MU Manirul Islam of the shipyard.

Khulna shipyard solely built the warship using own manpower in one and a half years, said Managing Director Commodore RU Ahmad.

Those are ferries not LVCP. They are purely used for ferrying across the river, not for combat purposes.

LVCP are usually armed with around two guns, are faster than ferries and are seaworthy.

LCVP are like IFV while the ferries are like tactical trucks.

^^^ their purpose is to cross through river canal so sea worthiness is not necessary . bigger version which station at postagola cantonment most probably have heavy machine gun

Their purpose is not only to cross cross river canals, but cross seas and bring the fight to enemy territory in case war breaks out(india, burma). LCVP in times of war will carry strike troops quickly and provide cover fire.

They have similar purposes, but they are not the same and the ferry is certainly not a larger version of LCVP

Great going Khulna Shipyeard. .. Great going shipping industry... LCVP stands for Landing Craft Vehicle & Personnel.

The new ship looks great too.

We all know what LCVP stands for. no one here is illitarate . you dont have to tell us that...

WTF is tht sh!t??? Thats a ******* ferry not a LCVP. It doesnt look seaworthy at all. It looks like a bus had sex with a small boat resulting in this mishap. Damn i was expecting it to be something like they navy's lcvp :/. Quite disappointed.

20m length 7m width, what else can you expect? :P looks like it can carry around 40-60 soldiers

In the south a trawler could easily hold up to 100+ people. Serious waste of money.

Whats the application of this vessel. It does not have any amphibious strike capability and neither it is large enough to carry heavy vehicles. The only application is that retired soldiers can have a river cruise on it.

The army shouldnt have glorified this midget ferry into a LCVP.
