No-confidence motion against Pakistan PM

Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) decided on Thursday to launch a campaign to mount pressure on the government starting with a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who has been trying to seek parliamentary support in the standoff with the judiciary on the NRO and with the military on the memo issues.

Sources in the PML-N said the decision had been taken at a joint meeting of the party’s central working committee and the parliamentary group, presided over by party chief Nawaz Sharif. But it was subject to a response from other political parties, they said.

The leadership, the sources said, had asked Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan to muster support of other parties for the no-confidence move and report back to it in another similar meeting to be held on Monday.

Ironically, the sources said, Chaudhry Nisar had pressed for devising a strategy to defeat any move by the PPP to gain a vote of confidence for the prime minister, instead of going for the no confidence motion.

However, the party’s MNA from Murree, Shahid Khagan Abbasi, and stalwart Khawaja Asif won the day, proposing that the PML-N should `take the initiative` and move `no confidence` in the prime minister not so much to remove him from the office as to add to the PPP`s troubles. A debate on the motion would allow the parliamentarians to attack the party on all issues and from all sides, they argued.

Soon after the meeting, Chaudhry Nisar met leaders of other opposition parties and informed them about the party`s decisions and sought their support.

He met JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Jamaat-i-Islami Senator Prof Khurshid Ahmed, head of the PML (Likeminded) Salim Saifullah Khan and PPP-S president Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao at his chamber in the Parliament House.

Talking to reporters, Chaudhry Nisar said there was a consensus among all opposition parties that fresh elections were the only solution to the present crisis.

He said the PML-N would oppose any move by the treasury to bring a resolution in support of the prime minister during the present session of the National Assembly.

The sources said Nawaz Sharif would meet Maulana Fazl, Salim Saifullah and Af tab Sherpao on Friday.

They said some party members, particularly Saad Rafique, had urged the leadership to announce a full fledged protest campaign against the government and even called for giving a date for a long march.

Some members also talked about the option of resigning from the assemblies, but the arguments advanced by Khagan Abbasi in support of his proposal of moving a no confidence motion against Mr Gilani won applause and later the whole discussion at the meeting that lasted more than three hours centred on the mechanism to initiate the process.

Because of lengthy discussion on the issue of no-confidence motion, the sources said, the party had failed to devise a strategy for Friday’s National Assembly session.

The PML-N`s information secretary, Mushahidullah Khan, said the party had decided to use the options of moving a no-confidence motion against the prime minister, holding a long march and resigning en masse from the assemblies.

However, he said, the order in which these options would be executed had been left for Mr Sharif to decide.

pfftt, my vote will go to immy or mushy, as for these retards, they shud be focusing on bigger problems like terrorism, Balochistan, energy/economy crises instead of fighting each other

looking at the latest headlines i doubt there will be one.:)

This is like shooting the bullet in the body of somebody who is breathing is last seconds.. pathetic politicians! Where was his excellency Mr. Nawaz Shareef the sleeping beauty when PPP was ridding on the horses and looting everywhere, destroying National fabric inside out.

I wouldn't forget PMLN for what they have already done but this move will cut life of this innateness government to few hours more.

MQM support

However, the PML-N’s outlandish suggestions may be of less consequence to the government as of Saturday evening.

The ruling PPP’s anxiety will be greatly reduced by news that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has decided to support the resolution. The MQM did not express immediate support for the resolution – complaining that it had been taken on board only at the 11th hour. However, following a sitting of its coordination committees in London and Karachi on Saturday, the party decided that it would support the resolution.

SO NOW EVERYONE FINALLY KNOWS MQM is supporting PPP totally just like ANP!!!! PPP is lucky to have such die hard jiala type ALLIES!!

Come on give the resignation, PML-N has enough seats if they resigns automatically things will change. Why they are still after those who are supporting the government (for some ministeries). ANP, MQM, and JUI are those loosers which will always be with the power. They don't have any morality.

The Idea of mass resignations is rejected by all the oppositions parties in a meeting called by NS, In lieu of that its been conveyed by JUI to somehow pressurise Zardari for calling early elections.

For me, It sounds logic how all these parties reject this idea and why??? And those who are prepogating it, what's their hidden agendas behinds it...!!

In the direction this country is going, this government should end now. (along with Zardari or say especially Zardari) otherwise there will be nothing left to save anything else.

Why now when the Government is on its last breath? Why not a Year Ago?

Nawaz Sharif is involved with PPP im sure off it
This move will just make PPP a Political Martyr

Woh Kya Kehtay Hain......Kotton ko Bhonknay say Kabhi...Qaflay nahee ruka kartay....!!

IK is very desperate nowadays, and why not he is becoming isolated day by day by these latest moves fm NS. whatever happened at the end of the day their is a grand opposition alliance in the offing which will turns towards and elections one very soon....and that's the bottom line i'm content with.

because 1 year ago there was no gas load shedding, PIA and ailways were not on the brink of bankrupsy, rupee was not on record low value, 2011 was worst year for drone attacks, OBL attack, salala check post attack, the impacts of 3 year incompetence is just showing now

again a martyr??? after BiBi, zardari and CO will also become shuhadaas??, ask from a true PPP jiala, they committed suicide in ghari khuda baksh december jalsa because of pee pee pee

PPP everyone knows is corrupt and inept!! the sad part is PML Q,MQM & ANP supports PPP

This was just another dramay bazi by MQM to make fool of people. Did anyone really believed that MQM won't support this bill? They did this for 2 reasons:

1. To show people "hey look, we are not blindly supporting this government, we will first act like we need to see the draft and then support it otherwise how are we going to make a fool out of awam"!

2. To show their importance as usual that they are the party of establishment. It's like a wedding function where everyone has arrived except khala jaan and without her nikah won't be solemnized. Everyone knows she will eventually come but khala jaan is taking her time to be the VIP and showing her importance.

MQM and ANP are 100% to blame for what PPP is going in the country, whether it is about railways, PIA, steel mills, corruption, gas loadshedding, petrol price hike or electricity loadshedding e.t.c.
