ISLAMABAD: There can be no peace in the region until the solution of the Kashmir problem, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Wednesday.

The prime minister said this while talking to Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store, who called on him along with a delegation at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Gilani said solution of the Kashmir problem would enable Pakistan to single-mindedly focus on the war against terrorism. He said Pakistan desired cordial relations with all its neighbours and peace and security in Pakistan was linked to the situation in Afghanistan. The prime minister urged Norway to play an active role in the Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FODP) forum to help Pakistan undertake reconstruction and development of the areas cleared from terrorists in FATA and NWFP and appreciated Norwegian assistance in establishment of 350 community schools in FATA. Gilani said Pakistan considers Norway as its special friend and desires excellent bilateral relations with it. He said both the countries should expand their relations in the sectors of trade and economic cooperation and stressed on the need for increasing the people to people contact between the two friendly countries. The prime minister welcomed the decision of Norwegian company Telenor to invest $2 billion in Pakistan in the next five years.

Gilani expressed his desire that Norwegian companies should also invest in oil and gas, petroleum, chemicals, pharmaceutical, fertilizers and iron and steel manufacturing sectors of the Pakistan economy.

The Norwegian foreign minister said that it was his third visit to the country and he was pleased to meet the prime minister. Store assured Gilani of his country’s full support for strengthening democracy in Pakistan and Norway would play its role to increase the aid, which Pakistan receives through the FODP.

Separately, the prime minister attended the meeting of the 92nd National Management Course. The prime minister, addressing the participants, said the government has made policies to tackle the problems of poverty and unemployment. He appreciated the fact that all macro economic indicators of the country were improving, which were a proof of the good economic policies of the government. Gilani said every institution should function under its jurisdiction and serve the masses with hard work and devotion. app

You mean you want Pakistan to re-start full support for the freedom fighters in IoK?

Never understood this "peace in the region" business. What region? Kashmir is an issue between India & Pakistan. While some connections exist between this and Pakistan's stand in Afghanistan, it would be simplistic to assume that is the only reason. The internal taliban problem in Pakistan or the naxalite and the insurgencies in the north east of India are not connected to the Kashmir issue. India's border issue with China or Pakistan's border issue with Afghanistan are not about to be solved with any resolution of the Kashmir issue. The Kashmir issue will almost never be resolvable to everyone's satisfaction. Peace in its truest meaning may never be achievable, maybe all that we can hope for would be an absence of large scale conflict.

Wonder what new action is contemplated ? Which new rabbit can be pulled out of the hat ?

Everything that could be done has been done - nothing has changed nor will.

If there are any new options or revival of old ones, we could discuss them.

Can you please enlighten all of us about what kind of action you are talking about??? If you have nothing specific than why to write some lines than can be taken as provocative by others and result in flame wars??? And if you have some suggestion why not to spell them out so that we can discuss them....

That would be a dangerous line to use AM....I don't think that in today's world armed struggle in Kashmir is considered as freedom struggle....nor Pakistan can afford to do so...but that would be my understanding...its Pakistan establishment and Pakistanis to decide what they want to do...one thing i know is that we won't sit idle and let Kashmir go back to ashes again....

This is mainly for public consumption. Like i said in another thread for now it is every difficult for both countries to move away from the tradition stance and think of an out of the box solution.
A better way would be to increase the trade volumes between the two sides, let each other invest in both countries, let there be a higher stake for the governments to stay put and avoid any means that could result in a possible conflict.
Money, investment, jobs, business opportunities can often help solve things that otherwise are almost impossible.

Finally there is no solution for Kashmir while both the countries will happily accept the Outcome... It is main weapon for politics so they never intended to solve at any cost.... its continues till our lives goes at the same stage...

right one but India dont accepting it with out :hang2: coz

laton kai boot batooon saiii nehi mantee

What will these terrorists achieve? India can respond to Pakistan in the same coin, interrupt water flow etc., so proxy war isn't going to lead anywhere, certainly not to a resolution.

Its said that Pakistan will turn into a desert if the water supply is interrupted and no country or army can survive without water. So for every terrorist attack in India the supply of water should be reduced and there would be a bigger Thar desert. For every peace treaty signed, the water should be deregulated again so that there is a friendly country in the neighborhood.

Who is supporting BLA and TTP?"
Whose army officiers are getting caught for providing explosives to terrorists and buring passenger trains?
Whose country made weapons are being caught from FATA?
Who was responsiable for arming, training and using mukti bhani in 71?
Whose head of state talked about playing sindh card?
If u still believe ur angels then son satan himself is a student in ur class.
And about the water issue id love to see that.Your govt. couldnt do tht even if it wanted to because it knows Pakistan isnt Nepal or srilanka.
And such thing will only invite more problems for u not solutions.

I doubt whether Pakistan can afford to the repeat the mistake. This time Pakistan would have to face consequences that would be severe. Pakistan would loose even the little sympathy and solidarity that it is enjoying in the comity of nations. This would be for Pakistan a blunder both financially and strategically

It already has.

BBC News - 'Four militants' die in Kashmir clash

BBC News - Why Pakistan is 'boosting Kashmir militants'

Actually we haven't - if the BBC report is correct, then militants have established camps in AK, but without active PA support.

The LoC ceasefire too remains largely intact.

Were Pakistan to re-start full support for the insurgency again, we would be looking at the days of the nineties again, with constant barrages between Indian and Pakistani forces across the LoC, often providing cover for militants, and active PA/ISI support for the groups.

We are nowhere close to that yet - the only thing that may have happened is some of the camps that were closed down during Musharraf's tenure may have been allowed to reopen.
