Gotta love Turkish media :)

I'm not surprised Army gave special permission to allow their reporters to travel in Army convoy. Turks are good allies.

Now can you imagine this.....their media is portraying the war in a subjective and informative way ---and you get a better sense of what its like to ride with the troops as they carry out their missions. Turks are experts at reporting conflicts, since they have dealt also with PKK terrorism.

Turks had their fair share of terrorism, and political instability from time to time. But they have pulled through and they are strong country.

Inshallah, we will also overcome the difficulties. Turks are united people, and very nationalist. We should be the same, and confront the challenges --many of which we are facing.

by the way, the "Dogru Yol" means "Correct Path/Road"

it is the name of the Operation (Path to Salvation)

Swat Taliban have fled to Karachi, South Waziristan’

* Security officials say terrorists may set up command and control structure in Karachi to gain foothold in country’s financial hub

By Iqbal Khattak

MINGORA: A large number of terrorists in Swat have fled to Karachi and South Waziristan to escape the military operation in Malakand division, military commanders and militants’ families said on Friday.

“I think these militants have fled to Karachi and Waziristan,” Operation Commander Major General Ashfaq Nadeem told Daily Times in an interview.

Nadeem said intelligence agencies were on the hunt for these suspected terrorists in Karachi and some of them had already been arrested.

“It is because Karachi is a big city and it is not easy to find someone so easily. Secondly, you can find shelter among fellow Pashtuns who number in tens of thousands,” said a man in Matta tehsil, whose militant relative was traced in Karachi.

Command structure: Security officials in Peshawar said the Swat Taliban, loyal to Fazlullah, were being hunted in Karachi where they might set up a command and control structure to gain a foothold in the country’s financial hub.

“Some signs of the Swat Taliban have already been seen in Karachi and the security personnel are working on these leads to arrest them,” officials said.

The security situation in Swat has improved significantly after the Taliban fled the area after military operation.

A female teacher in Mingora said she knew a Taliban commander whose father had sent his son to Saudi Arabia.

“This commander was known by the name of Hussain Ahmed and was the in charge of the Rahimabad sector. His father is an affluent man and he helped Hussain escape to Saudi Arabia,” the teacher said.

The military launched the operation in Malakand division after the Taliban, who earlier signed an agreement with the government to impose sharia law in the division and remain confined to Swat, violated the agreement and entered Buner, just over 100 miles away from Islamabad.

Swat girls prepared for suicide attacks presented to media

Swat girls prepared for suicide attacks presented to media

Updated on Saturday, January 09, 2010, 23:02 IST

Peshawar: Two teenage girls, who claimed that they had been prepared by the Taliban for conducting suicide attacks, were today introduced to the media by Pakistani authorities in the restive Swat valley.

The girls, identified only as Rabia (16) and Arifa (14), were clad in burqas and veils.

They said they had committed the "biggest mistake of their life" by volunteering for suicide missions with the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Swat led by radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah.

Rabia, a student of Class 7, and Arifa, a student of Class 6, belong to a village in the scenic Madyan valley, which was a Taliban stronghold till the army launched an operation against the militants last year.

The girls said they were impressed by sermons broadcast on illegal FM radio channels by Taliban leaders, including Fazlullah, and decided to become suicide bombers.

They claimed they had then "registered" their names with the local unit of the Taliban.

They told reporters that they had been made to believe that they would go straight to heaven after carrying out suicide attacks.

They added that they changed their minds when they learnt that the Taliban were destroying schools and public infrastructure.

I heard on Dawn News I believe, that some terrorists whose bombs went off while they were making them in KHI were from Swat. The government should perhaps have kept a tighter watch on all IDPs and especially those who moved to other cities to settle.
